Default Gear Price. Yeah or Nay?

My guy told me that installing new gears would be a about $550. labor he quoted me will be $300, plus gear which will be $160 and ring bearing $30.
Is this price about right, or should I keep shopping?

Your quote's better than mine. I was quoted $600 for the entire install including tax. Others on the forum said I could get it done closer to $450-$500.

I was quoted $500 for Motive 4:10 gears installed. I thought that was a bit much, but by the sound of it, I guess it's around par.

Sounds right to me. Labor to install the 4:10s in my truck cost $600. But more important, is this guy a good rear end mechanic? These cars are real sensitive about the brand of gears and their installation. Might be a good idea to see what your dealer wants to install 'em. Also, Ive done a lot of rearend work, but never heard of a "ring bearing". The ring gear has no bearing on it, but the pinion does. Maybe thats what he meant. But you should be able to reuse your pinion bearing since I bet its still in perfect shape. Now, the crush sleeve will have to be replaced, but I cant see that costing $30. Anyway, whine is what your trying to avoid. Be sure to mention your fear of this to anyone that does this job. Just my two cents.

A Ford dealer just quoted me $780 for 4:10s installed and that is after a $50 discount. So you are all getting way better deals than what some are offering around here.

Sorry, Pinion bearing. I knew that. just typed it wrong. Ive been studying for finals for the last 5 days and my brain is a little fried. He told me to go with the FRPP gears and bearing.

I just had Ford racing gear installed 558.00 out the door. No whine runs good.

I'm looking around and the lowest I've found was about 450 for the labor on the install for gears and a limited slip.
