Default Official Pioneer AVIC-Z1 Install Thread!

Hello all

Hope you don't mind me starting this new thread, I have recently installed a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 and found everything pretty daunting for my first time installation of a stereo in ANY car so I figured I might be able to help people in the same position I was in, I have had quite a few PM's the last week so maybe they can be asked here!

I have attached some images of my completed install, I also installed with the Z1 a Sirius SIR-PNR2 , Ipod CD-IB100II, CD-R5 Remote Control, ND-BC1 REAR VIEW CAMERA and also a CD-SR11 Steering Wheel Remote (very handy).

If I can be of any help please feel free to ask.

Thank you

Stuart

Dudeeeeeeee, I am soooo jealous of that. The z1 is awesome. I would love to get my hands on one. How is the voice recognition, is it great? How much do you like the bluetooth feature?

Thank you, yes I am really happy with it after reading a couple of mixed reviews, I have to admit I have not got to grips with the voice recognition as yet as I have only really finished the last of the install. I also added a DVD whilst in motion board recently although I don't think I will use it much but its nice to have the option.

Bluetooth won't get much use by me just yet as I don't have a Bluetooth phone....crappy Nextel! Also you need a additional add-on Bluetooth module for the Z1

As far as the override I have heard you have 2 choices. Buy a $25 module that splices into the illumination wire or just flip your light on and back off again real quick when you start the car. Personally I won't use it enough going down the road to justify taking it apart and putting in the $25 piece. I'll just go with the light flip thing. I'm still trying to figure out how it's so freakin easy to override this thing. Hell you could do it by accident if you didn't know!

Getting mine installed on Wednesday. They just ordered all the parts. $2399 installed. For now I'm just going with the iPod adapter. Haven't really had much of an interest in satellite and since I can't have a camera phone where I work, I don't have a phone with bluetooth. Wish they would make a non-camera phone with bluetooth, i'd buy it in a heartbeat. The rear view camera will come in sometime in the future when I get into the body work with the spoiler/trunk lid.

Nope I'm having it installed professionally. While I have no doubt that I can do it, I a) haven't installed a car stereo myself before and starting with a system like this might not be the idealk startign situation and b) I want to have it installed for my week vacation I'm taking memorial day week and would not have the time to do it between now and then.

I installed the relays and harness in the car for dvd whilst in motion and it didnt work, it worked for about 1 mile but then due to the vibration whilst in motion the radio detected it so that was a waste of $25, the flashing the headlight option is the best to go for, on the avic411.com forum there is someone selling a little board that you add in that does this for you without actually having to flash your headlights as at night that can be a little distracting. Works well!

For the iPod connector, I've been thinking about seeing if they can run the cable up to the center console and come through at that little access plate to the parking brake. It woul dbe alot easier to get to my ipod through there as opposed to my glove compartment. What do you guys think?
