Default window tint / racing stripes

Can you stick tint right over tint to make it darker or do you need to just rip it out and put in new stuff. The reason I ask is I was contemplating doing my racing stripes in darker tint on my rear window. Sound cool?

I had a similar idea, that would be cool. Especially with your colors. If you can't put tint over your tint, I know I have seen it done.....my brothers friends truck had the chevy bowtie in the tint, continuing your stripes over the glass would ROCK. If you dont like it just rip it out, and get it retinted.......no too too much cash.

Good Luck!!

when i bought my car from the dealer - it had 35% tint on the back windows, and i was able to put 5% on top of that. no issues, no bubbles. i'm not sure how your tint on tint stripe would look though. if it doesn't look all that good, you may have to take off both layers of tint.

Be careful trying to remove tint from the back light. You really can't use a scraper because you're likely to damage - or completely destroy - your defroster wires. You could very well end up needing to replace the whole back light if you need the defroster to work. I have heard of people having success with adding tint over tint, as long as the first piece is VERY smooth, clean, and tight.

painted...and there is no way I'd put a sticker on my car... Painted shines up and looks a million times better. Plus it never bubbles, peels, fades, or anything like that. does cost abit more though...

That's a very cool idea. I'd also be worried about messing up the original tint layer. I wonder if you could put the stripe tint on the outside? I just tinted my car, and I'm planning on putting stripes on it this weekend (sorry, yeah, stickers). I might try the outside tint idea and see how it works.

Yes, it can be done. I've seen plenty of custom tinting jobs with everything from stripes to flames! In my opinion all the layered tint jobs look a little ricey though.
