Default Start Button Info

Not sure if anyone has already posted this or not (I couldn't find it on the site).

Anyhow, I added the start button last night. I also picked up a spare key, without the chip in the handle. I had the key cut to match my car key.

The plan was to leave the new key in the car as a starter switch. That way, as long as I had the actual key in my pocket, I could start my car. If the key wasn't around the car, it wouldn't start.

Well, it doesn't work. You actually need the real key in the ignition cylinder for it to work.

The new key would turn, and the accessories turned on, but the car would not turn over.

Just thought I would mention it in case anyone else had a similar idea.

Thanks, I had a similar thought, but it sounds good that the system works that well!!

Whats weird is I accidentally put my expedition key in my stang and all the stuff came on, but of course woudln't turn over. I've done it several times because the keys look almost exactly the same. I found it pretty funny.

My son purchased the start button kit for his 06. Now he doesn't want to install it due to having to disassemble the dash and steering wheel to get it in. How was your experience in installing the button and how long did it take you? Any advice will be appreciated.

Unless he changes his mind, we may have a button kit for sale.

The install is actually pretty easy. You just need to take care when prying the panels off. You shouldn't need to force anything.

I didn't buy the kit, just the button. I didn't get the standard S2000 button. Mine glows blue (which goes really well with my blue gauges).

The center console removal is really just 2 screws, and then pulling the panels off. It's a bit tricky to figure out how it all pops apart, but after you figure it out once, it's a piece of cake.

The steering column bottom panel removal is also relatively simple. A few screws under the steering column. There's a third screw that you need a long philips screwdriver to get too in the back, but still pretty easy.

The install took maybe half an hour. But I was already familiar with how to take the dash apart (already had to do that for a subwoofer install). I'd guess 1-2 hours for someone who isn't familiar with how everything goes together.

Just tell your son to take his time, and it's pretty easy.

the install takes 30min, and is primarily just taking off of panels. most of them except the center dash pieces are "snap" in panels anyway, just takes some tough love to work them out

I posted some instructions. It was fairly simple to complete. Just take your time. It looks harder then it really is. Take all the panels off first. Then look for the appropriate iwres. You will need to unravel the tape on the bundle underneath the steering wheel to get at the acc wire as shown in the instructions.
