Default Anybody know the amp wire colors?

I want to hook up an amp for a sub in the trunk of my vert w/ the shaker 500. the two amps under the dash for the door speakers I located. Can anyone tell me which wire is the amp turn on wire? I need to splice into one of them to get my new amp to turn on also. Is it advisable to hook the new amp turn on wire to just a 12v switched lead in the fusebox instead?

Thanks.

Wait Time out..........How big of an amp are we talking about. If it were me I would run all new wire straight from the battery, depending on how much amperage your sending through there will dictate your wire gauge. I have never ran anything aftermarket powered on stock wiring. It just doesnt seem safe to me, because who knows what else it may be connected to or what problems you may have in the future. If you run your own wire that's direct to that amp, if anything ever goes wrong with the amp most likely it wont destroy the rest of the electronics in your car. I'm not sure exactly what the specs are for your stuff but if it's anything over 500amps you might want to think about getting a Capacitor so you don't blow your amp or your alternator with the hard hits.

BTW...If you posted in the A/V section you'd probly get more help

He's not trying to get power from the stock wiring. He just wants to know if he can tap into the stock wiring's turn-on leads for the turn-on lead for his new amp. Yes, you can, but you may have a popping problem due to the different voltage required for the stock amps. I believe they require a higher voltage that, when you use the same for your new amp will make the attached speakers pop when turning on and off. No damage but a little annoying. A regulator ($5 Radioshack) will solve it though.

The color of the stock turn-on leads are the Dark Green with Violet and the Gray with Black.

Either way, you will probably need a regulator (wether you go with the stock turn-on or a new circuit in the panel) so you may be better off going to the fuse panel. That way you won't have to pull the dash to wire it. Check the voltage requirement for the turn-on circuit in the manual for your new amp, that will tell you which reg to buy to stop the pop!

"The color of the stock turn-on leads are the Dark Green with Violet and the Gray with Black."

Thanks scooter, that's what I was looking for. I could just tap into one of them right where they enter the amp so i would not have to tear up the dash.

But that popping noise iI was unaware of. Are you saying that the voltage for a typical turn on lead is NOT 12V?

If not, then do you think a typical Radio Shack employee would know what I'm talking about if I asked him for a "regulator"?

Well, i just looked at the instructions and specs. Nowhere does it mention the turn on lead voltage but the box does say "soft turn on technology". I hope that = no pop.
