New leather seats don't have the smell...

RE: New leather seats don't have the smell...
What about the bolsters on the seat and seat back (the non-perforated part), isn't it leather? If not, what a ripoff! I thought just the seat sides (down by the seat adjustment, controls) seat backs and headrests weren't leather. [:@]

Just the part you back and butt touch are leather. This is the case with almost all auto manufacture so do not feel ripped off. To make the seats 100% Leather would be very pricey. Even all the after market kits such as Katzkins and Classicsoft trim are the same way. I put Katzkins in my truck and had to order the upgrade to get the entire seating area leather.

and did you notice how butt-ugly the stock, cloth seats were? Little ponys all over them!
I guess we should have gone with that and then had them reupolstered in real leather with body-color inserts.
Then we'd have to upgrade the stereo too (which also would NEED to be done), right? isn't that the other upgrade you get with the Premium package?

Using a good leather cleaner/conditioner on even the small parts that are leather will provide a good scent for those that like it. I use Griot's, but I'm sure the other quality conditioners will provide the same results.

I bought a 2006 GT with leather about 6 months ago. I have noticed that the leather doesn't have the leather smell that many of the other cars I have had, did.
I thought I read somewhere that there is a protective coating on the seats that may cause this.
Anyone know?

It's not that the seats don't have this coating anymore but they were probably forced to use something that didn't smell as much.

That article doesn't have all of the facts, but it gives you some ideas as to why the 'law' is changing...

Its true the middle part of the front seats are the leather parts. The sides are vinyl... I know because I had to have one side replaced when something tore it. I asked about it since she ordered vinyl and she said thats because the sides are vinyl, leather is in the center of the seat. And yes the car didn't have the leather smell like some do. I know the smell of leather very well as I do have horses.
