Default New leather seats don't have the smell...

I bought a 2006 GT with leather about 6 months ago. I have noticed that the leather doesn't have the leather smell that many of the other cars I have had, did.

I thought I read somewhere that there is a protective coating on the seats that may cause this.
Anyone know?

that is because there is not much leather on the seats - just around the sides, the rest is actually vinly.

I would attribute it to the fact that 80% of the seat is covered in vinyl. Only the perforated section is leather.

I'm gonna have to call bullsh!t on that. They are advertised as leather seats and I quote "Leather seating surfaces on sport bucket seats" and "Leather seating surfaces on bucket seats" my butt is not so big that it only hits the around the sides of my seat! LOL Where did you two get that info? I'm not saying your wrong or looking for an argument, I just wanna know

I believe it's just the back and mine sure has that new smell, but maybe it's the top and not the leather.

here are some older coments on the seats: (by the way, the onlyleather is the perforated sections in the two front seats)

If you order leather in a GT, you get what is referred to as "Leather-trimmed Sport Bucket Seats" which is the "Arbadeen" leather with the little holes.....they are not really holes but you get the idea.

Yes the back seat is not leather :notnice: . The only leather is the seating surfaces of the front seats, not even the sides or backs of those are leather. Sorry to let you down.

ICAP DOES NOT HAVE LEATHER IN THE BACK!
Mine has ICAP, they are plastic just like they are for all the other colors! You just have to compare the fake perforations that are molded into the vinyl, to the real ones that are cut into the leather on the fronts! It is very obvious that the rear is vinyl if you just take a close look!
The only leather used in the '05, like on my previous '03, is on the forward facing seating surfaces of the front seats. In other words, only the parts of the front seats that come in contact with your body.
Check for yourself it's true.

Yes, I was skeptical myself and wouldn't believe it. BUT It's true, the back seats are vinyl. They did a good job with it though, the only way I could tell was my very own "wrinkle" test.

Take your finger and depress it into you're font seat, you'll see fine little wrinkles form around your finger. Leather does that, it wrinkles. Now do the same thing on the rear seats... no wrinkles... vinyl!

All leather interior is real leather just where you sit , the rest is vinyl. That is on all leather interiors, unless your talking about a high end vehicle like a rolls, or ect... or you want to have the interior custom made and pay high dollars.

Huh, whatta know! Live and learn. Thanks for the info. When I get off of work I'm gonna go do the wrinkle test first thing. I love my car anyway, and Ozium at least makes it smell like they're all leather

this discussion is the reason i chose fabric not enough leather to justify the cost .
been bit before by the "seating surface" comment on a caddy for $995 and tauras for $895
plus i plan a long term relationship with this car and felt that fabric has a longer life with less care
