I wonder if Ford made the 3.55 an option because so many were changing the stock 3.55 to 4.19? The other thought is MPG... lower RPM's at highway speeds.... I think it's too bad the dealers weren't very aware of this change, of course - the dealers weren't very aware of a lot of the subtle changes in the 07... the forums were quicker with the information than the Ford reps...
It's rumored that it was done to raise the fleet higher in the CAFE standings. The measures are taken across the entire fleet, the only division being between trucks and cars.

Regarding the earlier question about the rear end being an upgrade, I did run across one rumor that the 3.55 option also included an upgraded rearend. But I think that rumor was later dispelled.

Too bad... can't afford the GT500 (plus I can't see myself driving it to work) and I don't particularly like the C/S. Maybe Ford'll change thing by the time I get my Mustang... they have plenty of time.

I ordered my 07 GT in August 06. Took deliery September. The dealer didnt have any info on 07 options so I had to print it off the web and show them. I got my GT with the Interior Upgrade Package. This gave me heated seats, and leather stitched on the steering wheel, dash, center console, and door arm rests. Very well worth it. Gorgeous, like a million $. My car is black with red leather. The upgrade leather pieces are black. Looks awesome. Way better than the stock plastic, which turned me off in 05 and 06. I gambled that the Upgrade Package would be done right, and it is.

The 3.55 gears were optional so I asked for those. Same w spoiler delete.

If I found the official options list in 06 you can find it now.

Wow I'm happy I held out till 07 to buy mine, she came with the following:

Heated Seats
Power Passanger
Plenum Cover
Rolled Exhaust Tips
3.55s

Honestly I see the power seats as just adding weight. I've never personally used the heated seats (she is a fair weather friend) but in past cars girls have seemed to go bonkers over heated seats.

These cars are probably the only cars in the world that have heated seats but unlit vanity mirrors... go figure.

Im with you on the vanity mirrors. WTF? My gf cranes her neck to get light from the interior spots while I have my dash lit up. But Im afraid they would bundle lit vanities with the power rear view mirror. I hateauto dark rear view mirrors. I preffer manual ones.
