Country Ford refuses to honor warranty

I took my 2005 Mustang convertible with only 4000 miles to Country Ford in Levittown, NY to fix the problem with the brake reservoir cap leaking and to install a rubber bumper which was missing from the fuel door area. After keeping the car for half a day, they tell me that they will not service my vehicle because I have a CAI installed.

I told them that the Magnusson Moss act states that unless the modifcation caused the failure, they would need to honor the warranty and they told me I had to take it back to the dealer where I purchased it. I know that's b#LL.

I called the Ford customer service number and complained but I know that won't do much good.

Fortunately, Able Ford where I bought the car, is a really good dealership and I should not have any problems there. I went to Country because they are only 4 miles away from me as opposed to Able which is almost 30 miles and there is always traffic going and coming from there.

Hope you guys get better service from your local Ford dealers. Country Ford is a perfect example of why everyone hates to buy american cars.

RE: Country Ford refuses to honor warranty
That is terrible however I know your other dealership will honor you. There is no way that CAI made the problems with the reservoir cap leaking and made the rubber bumper that was missing from having it repaired. Do you hear how stupid that sounds. If I was you I would tell them that they are a bitch and I wouldn't trust anybody that stupid with my car anyway. Actually a CAI is better for the car if you don't suffer any octane problems such as pinging. Don't ask me the professional terms for that as others I'm sure know here.

Not that I'm taking the side of the dealer that denied your claim, their reasoning was very stupid. However all ford dealers are subject to fords warranty policies and if they do to many warranty repairs ford will actually punish the dealer for costing them to much money. It could be that they are doing to many warranty repairs lately and didn’t need one form someone who didn’t even buy a car from them. Just something that came to mind.

This is exactly the problem with the M-M act, we as consumers still have no leverage over the dealerships. It only has meaning in a court of law. This is clearly a case that the M-M act was designed to prevent, and yet still you are being "discriminated" against because of your completely unrelated mod. Good luck, you may want to remove the CAI before taking it to the other dealer!

Ford doesn't pay as much for warranty work to a dealership. This can be problematic in cases where the work was minimal and not a whole lot of money to be made for there time put in.They used the excuse of the CAI to avoid having to do it and sent you to the dealer where you bought it."Let them take the hit".For example if your clutch went out and the car was out of warranty the dealership would charge the consumer 500.00 dollars if it went out under warranty Ford would only pay the dealer 350.00 dollars.

RE: Country Ford refuses to honor warranty
This is becoming the norm more and more these days with dealerships. Especially since Ford is in such bad financial shape. The had finally started to get better a few years back with being involved with SEMA and such and lately thing like this are becoming a common occurrence.

When i asked my dealer about a CAI he said they would void my warranty if i installed one. Know i know they cannot legally do this and did not argue with him as it is a waste of time. So i went in the other day and asked him how much to install the Ford Racing Headers and was told Oh No we do not install headers or any performance part and will not even work on a vehicle that has performance parts. So i asked what about the GT500 and the Lightning and he told me no were are not a SVT Authorizzed dealer and have no plans to. So i aksed what they planned on doing with the Cobra coming out and he said he had no idea.

RE: Country Ford refuses to honor warranty
wll, that sucks man, dont know what to say. if I can add my two cents, its like this, I am a service Director for a Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki motorcyle dealer in daytona beach. our service center welcomes people that bought from other dealers need waranty work no matter if they bought from us or not. a warranty job has to be honored by any dealer that sells that product, so it is b.s. that they will not help you. as far as warranty pay goes; like I said we will do warranty work all the time, anytime, these days manufacter will pay about 80-85% of what a job costs when it is customer paid labor. yeah its not 100%, but its still money, and as far as getting penalized for doing warranty work as a dealer, thats not true in the least bit. truth is the more work a dealer does, the more the manufacter recognizes that, which equates to service recognition. all in all, "the squeaky wheel always gets the grease" game is what you need to play. talk to the service amnger, if that dosent work, talk to service director, if not gm, so on and so on. if not then contact ford and tell them about, believe you me, that dealer will get that "shi* rolls down hill?" effect from Ford and they will contact the dealer to resolve the problem, trust me these days its all about customer satifaction and repeat buisness, question is, do they want your repeat buisness?
