Default rear tire size

I am going to run 20x8.5/20x10s on my wifes mustang. Foose nitrous, that part is settled.

Rear tire size is still kicking and screaming...

Ideal size to me would be a 295/35/20 but i cant find one.

Toyo makes a 275/40/20, 295/30/20 in the proxes 4. are they a decent tire?
The nitto NT555 also makes the 295/30 is this a better tire?

Personally i think the rear needs a little more meat than a 30 series tire gives on a 295.

WHat else is out there.

Anybody have any suggestions.

The car is a daily driver and must get some tires that do decent in the rain.

Go to tirerack or discount tire websites and run a tire size search.

I have spent alot of time on the various tire sites and had no luck with finding 295/35,

I can find 275/40s but those are a quite a bit larger in diameter.

I guess no one makes and ideal size in 20"

Right now the 295/30 proxes 4 are leading the pack, just wish i could get a little more sidewall.

I know there are plenty of guys out there running 20s just need some feed back from them on what they like/dislike and what they would do differently.

Thanks

I don't see why you couldn't run a 295/40/20 which is 29.3" tall. That height might seem like to much but its not really. Im running the Nitto555 295/45/18's and their overall diameter is 28.31", which would make the 295/40/20 about an inch taller than mine. I still have plenty of room in my wheelwell. A buddy of mine is running the same setup with a 1.5" drop in the rear and 1" drop in the front. That 295/40/20 will fill the wheelwell out nicely, unless of course your planning on dropping it then it might be too much tire.

Here's how mine look, so you can use as a reference.

And this is my buddy's car. Same tire and wheel setup, but with lowering springs.

You would need to get a tuner to calibrate your new tire size so the speedometer wouldn't be off.

Thanks for the input pantera but the wifes gt is an auto and really dont want to jump that big of diameter...i would need to regear.

The ride overall got much better to be truthful. I was very worried about it due to the 20's but to my surprise the ride got better. Noise also is less. I lost some acceleration i did notice that for sure. I will be doing a gear swap sometime in the near future but for now I have a CAI/ Tuner on the way to help a little. I will be going to 3.73 as i think 4.10 are way to steep for the daily driver that the car is.

The tires must be 285/30 then I always get the front and rears mixed up. I have not had the tires long enough to use them in rain the car is only 1 month old and the tires a few weeks old currently.

And thanks for the compliment on the car. She needs to be lowered and i simply need to find the time to install the springs and shocks and struts. Maybe this weekend but with Temps predicted in the 107 Degree area I doubt i will be doing it.

I purchased mine here although i have heard you can get a lower price at the link below Unique.

06GT, Real nice car thanks for sharing those pics!
I have the same tires BFG KDW2 but went with 285x30x20 rear and 255x35x20 front. I have yet to mount them as I left out of town for 3 weeks the day before the wheels showed up. Nice timing! Anyway when I do get them mounted I'll too post pictures. I do have these BFG KDW2 245x45x17 on another car (05 Cobalt) and I like these tire. Granted I don't have an issue with over powering them but thay do seem to hold the road well. 05SDI
