I test drove one a week ago. When downshifting I thought a cop or fire engine was coming up behind me, sounded like a siren. I was downshifting pretty hard into second gear though.

Well, I can forgive the back of the gears a little whining, they get a rough break-in and wear pattern from the best of drivers (which I will not even hint at being - I can't keep my foot out of it for the 5 miles on 30-40MPH roads between here and preschool).

Though, I must say, I do not hear anything I would describe so harshly under any circumstances...
