Hurst shifter installed..WOW!

Just got done replacing the sorry factory shifter in my GT. WHAT a DIFFERENCE! I put the Hurst competition plus in. Much ,much shorter throw and notchier.What a great feel. It's taller and now my arm isn't riding the console or hitting a cup in the console. Only took an hour to change.Very easy and straight forward install.I HIGHLY recommend this upgrade.I just don't know why I waited so long. Legend GT

I'm with jaiasmit on this. If your not going to be slammin' hard all the time why would you need a billet shifter? Can you say overkill? By the way, the tranny has built-in stops. The hurst comp plus is just fine for street driving. I bought mine at Jeg's and they will match any low price that you find(ebay).i live close to jeg's so it was a no-brainer for me.Legend GT

Let us know how much it costs you to replave that bent shifter fork down the road, I'm guessing a LOT more than 20 bucks

As far as using the stock ****, I do not think it will work with any aftermarket shifter, nor will it fit on my older (2001) GT.

Sorry for the slight hijack, but, here's my question;
I understand the theory of the short throw shifters, such as the Hurst, etc. in that they basically change the geometry of the shift linkage under the car, thereby changing pivot points and shortening the throw. What I don't understand is, in looking at install instructions for shifters such as the MGW shifter (non 05 version that gets rave reviews), it appears that all the changes are done top side, in removing the shift boot, cover plate on top of tranny, pulling out the stock shift arm, with the pivot attached, and replacing with the new "short throw" arm and pivot, replace cover plate, and button it up.....
How does this version achieve the short throw in comparison to the Hurst, or other "below the car linkage" versions.....?? I cannot find an answer to this. Sorry if this is way obvious, but this old man just don't get it.....

I have been unpatiently awaiting the MGW version for the 05, but would really like to understand the difference between the two types before proceeding......
Thanks all,
Mike

tres wright,, it's not a "can't afford" situation.It's like this:if I'm racing the car at the track all the time I would most certainly buy the billet version,but,since I'm not thrashing this car regularly the Hurst fit my bill. I guess it's all about proper application. I've said all that to say this,it fit's my needs.If you feel you need the billet ,by all means get one . Legend GT
I have had my Hurst shifter now for about 2 days. I wish i would have bought it sooner, by far one of the best mods. A very easy install too. the old one can be pulled right past the drive shaft (with a little finesse) and the new one can get dropped down through the hole from inside the car. I have not missed a gear yet.
