i just moved to kentucky (yee haw,,,) and 31W runs right through the city i live in. its a huge strip essentially, bein as theres nothin much else to do here. see quite a few nice cars, and have a chance to turn off on side highways and a beltway and race. i have an auto with evo tune, only running the 87 as it was cheaper during the move. point being, ive stomped a 5-speed mach 1. more than a car length, and thats with my wife lookin out the back for me. so straight up, i think it would be a drivers race, but when you figure hp/lb ratio, the mach should be able to edge.

properly broken in new stang puts down about 270-275 to the ground. do the math with a 20-22 % drivetrain loss; that can't be right. and LS1's put down 300-315. wow.

and btw the mach is faster than the GT; but marginally. drivers race IMO; .2-.3 advantage to the mach.

Based on 22% loss , 273 hp at the tires would be 350hp net at the crank. I dont know if I buy that. I think that if ford really had a 350hp motor here they would be bragging. 20hp underrated I believe, 50 is a bit hard to swallow.

Maybe 22% loss if you include accessory drive losses but that would be SAE gross HP, not net (which is what all cars are rated at since the early 70's)

But you are right, the machs are a tad faster due to the weight difference.

I dont think the new gt has 22% loss these cars are more efficent of putting the hp to the ground. I think there is no doubt the 05/06 gt are underrated, I see people putting down 260-270 all the time on stock engine, with 15-18% that would make it 320-325 or so, that sounds about right. With my stock saleen n/a i put down 280, so with a 315-320 motor and the extra 30hp from a saleen upgrades I am in the 350 range at the motor, when I had a CAI installed before my s/c just to see the difference I put down 307, that would put me at 375 with 18% drive loss now I am not saying I had 375 hp in my saleen n/a with a CAI but numbers dont lie, and they could be different on another dyno, but I think that proved to me these 3V are underrated

A manual Mach 1 has the same rear gear and tranny gears as the new 5spd Mustang GT, 5th gear is slightly taller in the Mach, .62 to our .68 which means nothing of course.

3rd gear in the 05-07 GT is 1.72
In the Mach 1 it's 1.32

All are the same except 3rd and 5th which the MGT has those two gears lower.

Sounds like the same thing that GM did with 02' LS1 cars and the newer 03'Vettes, I cant come with the numbers right now but I will research them. But the point is that the 02' LS1 were rated( close figure not sure on exact) @ 320engine HP and the vettes were rated @350engine HP, But according to alot of Fbody owners and dynos the 02s Fbodys were puttin down at the rear wheels the same power as the more expensive corvettes. In reality the had the exact same 346CI LS1 in both them rated @345HP.

I believe that was an attempt to keep potential vette owners from purchasin the cheaper fbodys cousins.

The same COULD-BE said about Ford and an attempt to keep a clear cut line between the GT and the Shelbys.
350 HP for the MGT vs. 475 for the Shelby, might changes some potential Shelby owners from purchasin 45k+ super mustang over there 28k MGT base model...

JMO...

The Fbody LS1's were putting down 295-300hp at the wheels right off the lot but were advertised as 305hp (non ram air). I think we are slightly under rated but maybe closer to 320hp.

The mach has a slight weight advantage as well as having a higher rev limit. Combining those two makes the Mach slightly faster than an SN197 GT. Whenever I race friends with Machs the only time they pull on me is when they are still reving up to 6800 and I am shifting in at 6200. This was with stock vehicles. His advantage was almost gone after a 93 octane tune (Mach's run on 91 from the factory if I recall correctly) and raising my rev limiter to 6600, but he still pulled whenever I had to shift because he didn't. Now with all of my mods below I near stock mach can't hold a candle to me.

The manual trannies in the Mach and GT have the same gears except for 5th, this is per Ford's website and the Mach 1 registry web site. Where do you get your info from? I'm not trying to give out anything but accurate info myself so if Ford anf the registry are both wrong please state where the correct info can be gotten?

Those were the numbers previously before GM decided to kill the Fbody. 01&02 by far were rated at much higher level than the previous years, I think they were putting down like 320whp off the factory floor. Thats just what i read off of some GM forums....

Well, your info is probably correct then. I can't remember where I got the gear ratios from originally
but that's what I have in my CarTest for the Mach1.
But again, if you found it on Ford's website and the Mach1 registry, that's probably accurate.

What does it show for the Mach 1's curb weight, as I have 3471 for the car.
That makes it almost identical to the 05/06 GT too.
Also the compression ratio. My program shows 9.0 for the Mach 1
but 9.8 for the Mustang GT, which is strange considering the Mach 1 has
a 6500 rpm redline and the Mustang GT 6000.

Like you, I want to make sure my info. is accurate.
