Default Engine Compartment

The weather here so far has been pretty crappy this summer, we are having like really ugly duststorms during the day, and then usually light rains during the evening, so that when you come out in the morning, theres a layer of mud on your car waiting for you. Anyways, with all the dirt blowing, the engine compartment now has this layer of dirt on everything, and whenever I see pics of people's engine compartments they always look so clean. So my question is, what should I use for cleaning the engine compartment. Is there a safe product that I can spray on/rinse off?

Some people have used water without any problems, but I wouldn't recommend it cause it can lead to electrical problems. If it's just dust, then some sort of compressed air would be a better alternative. You can buy it in a can or use an actual compressor if you have one. Then use a detailer to shine up the rest of the components. You might also want to think about getting a car cover. They help out a ton.

Yeah, it's not just dust, it's that film of whatever its from that tends to form under the hoods of cars, but it is worse now because I can feel the dirt/dust embedded in it, if I wipe my finger across a surface area, I can feel the grit. I think the car cover would be a wise investment, but want to try and get rid of the existing gook first
