Default When you install gears...

I know there are a a ton of posts about gears, and I apologize for adding one more to the mix. The question I had was, when ordering gears, do I need to order anything else with them? Gear oil? Any accessories to make the install easier/line things up? (I am not doing it myself, I just want to be sure I have everything the install shop needs.)

Thanks in advance.

Yeah you are going to need gear oil as well as an install kit. Depending on how new your car is (how many miles you have on it), you can get the smaller install kit that has the pinion and carrier shims, crush sleeve, pinion seal, pinion nut, ring gear bolts and cover gasket. Or you can get the larger install kit that has pinion gear and carrier barrings in addition to everything else.

Thanks for the info Stang Skeleton. is there a particular brand of gear folks on the forum like? I notice www.mustangtuning.com has Motive and Ford Racing gears. Any others out there that are better?

I would let the gear shop install there gear oil for the 500 mile break in period then after that has passes I would switch to Redline 75w140. I would also suggest a install kit since your car is a year old it is cheaper to replace the bearings and seals now instead of 6 months from now if one should fail. I am sure other will disagree with that but i am a firm believer in spending a few extra bucks now instead of a few hundred later on.

Hmmm, ok. So you recommend I don't buy the oil up front, and go ahead and let the shop use it's oil?
