Ford Performance Packs
Better To go aftermarket, or is Ford's performance packs( Upgrade, Drag, and Handling) acceptable. Not planning to race my 07, but would like more guts, due to a low budget, will upgrade exhaust and etc over time. Any Thoughts???
Personally, I don't like the Ford packs. They are (for the most part) mediocre parts with mediocre (or worse) pricing. About the only "good" component in them is the gears in the drag pack and the mufflers (which are just Re-labled Borlas). I would piece together my mods from individual aftermarket sources.
Here are some specific thoughts.
Power Pack:
Mufflers are good (they are just repackaged Borlas)
Air intake is OK but others are better, such as the C&L and JLT.
Programmer is OK, but less flexible than others. Buy a SCT-II or Predator instead.
Oil filter: WTF??
Drag Pack:
Shorty Headers: Waste of $$$. They are expensive, time-consuming to install (more expense) and are only good for about 3-5 HP tops. WHY?? (Buy longtubes instead.)
Shifter: OK, but there are many aftermarket choices too.
Oil filter: Again, WTF??
Air intake: see above.
Gears: Worthwhile. But you can buy the gears by themselves if you want.
Handling Pack:
Strut tower brace: Not needed on these cars. But, if you want one buy the BMR, it's much better (and it's cheap).
Shocks: Better than stock, but not as good as the Toicko D-spec shocks, which are fully adjustible. Get them instead.
Springs: Nothing special. There are many competing choices from Eibach, Roush, and Steeda (and others).
Sway Bars: Again, nothing special. Steeda, Roush, and Eibach make nicer ones.
