I put in 4.10 in my v6 and my gas mileage is actually better now. Not sure how that worked out but there was definitely an improvement. As far a gear whine, I'm of the opinion it's the installer. A bad installer will make gear that shouldn't whine whine, and a good installer can quiet down gears that might be notoriously noisy. I've got motive 4.10's in and a lot of people complained of gear whine and I have yet to hear any at all.
