Default Closest to empty?

For those of you who have the IUP. When you are running low on fuel a warning comes on at 50 miles left. My question is who has been the closest to zero? I am just curious how accurate the warning system is. I refilled with 13 miles left today. It got kind of scary at points because it seemed like I lost 2-3 miles in maybe a mile of driving. I wasn't driving it hard or anything.

I've taken as low as 8 miles but I don't think its dead on accurate. The milage various according to Average MPG. I've know people with differnent vehicles with this feature to ride it down to zero and still have gas left. Like maybe an 1/16th of a tank.

I have driven over 10 miles After it read Zero miles to empty. BUT when acceration hard from a stop the car would fall right on it's face about half way through firs. Sot after about 3 times, thats when I figured ok that's pretty empty so I better fill up. 05SDI

Yeah, each car is different due to the tolerances on senders/gauges. I replaced the instrument cluster on one of my cars, and where I could make it pretty far with the gas light on before, after the swap it would run out shortly after the light went on. I run on E quite often, if you haven't noticed yet

I don’t pay too much attention to that feature, sometimes it will read a ridiculous low number when I know I have plenty of gas left. Like yesterday it said 31 miles left and I had more than half a tank. Then after shutting down and restarting it said 100 and something. It’s done this to me a couple of times already. Has this happened to anyone else?

This thread reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer takes the car salesman for a ride to see how far the car could go before running out of gas [sm=icon_rofl.gif]

^^^ ha ha ha, thats my favorite episode of Seinfeld!!

But yeah, I have gone about 20 miles after it showed 0 miles left. No problems. I don't pay attention to that gauge to much, just the actual gas guage.
