No idea. I was driving around the scenic back roads one day and noticed I was a "ZERO MILES TO EMPTY" (who knows how long I had been on zero). I drove about 10 miles to the nearest station, sweatin' the whole time. Made it there fine. I don't remember how many gallons I put in, but I now know that on my car I can go beyond zero. Each car is different though.

WE have 16 gallon tanks right??

Anyways, I took mine down to 7 miles to empty and filled up and it came out to 14.6 gallons of gas.... So I think the reserve is about a gallon past 0.

I don't even know if my fuel gauge goes below 1/2. Filling it up is just another excuse to go for a ride. BTW ..Owning a digital camera $ 450. Buying 16 gallons of premium fuel $40. (back then). Using the camera to take a picture of the fuel pump final reading after exhausting the on board fuel supply "insane" lol!!!

Got down to 6, but didn't want to risk it since it was late at night.

ORIGINAL: blackv6

i made a tank last about 370 miles!!!!(road trip, cruise control) average 34 mpg on a v6 w/ steeda filter and magnaflow exhaust.

34 mpg? Did you go faster than 40 MPH?

I just went from NY to Vegas and got 25 mpg averaging 75 MPH in a v6.

You're better off reading the Gallons Used feature. So far, the used measure has never been off by more than 0.2 gallons but usually only 0.1, but it's always overestimated. As to exactly how many gallons are in the car when the pump shuts off, I don't know, but it's fairly easy to find out.

But yeah, filling up before you reach 1/4 tank is always advisable.

Has anyone burned up a fuel pump running that low on gas? I normally fill up when it reads 50 miles left.
