I was thinkin' about buying an '06 stang and putting a supercharger, exhuast, wheels, etc...but I used to have an '87 5.0 and an '86 5.0 capri (with mustang hatch) and I loved those cars!! I could dump the money I was going to use on the S197 and build the crap out of a fox body. What do you guys think?? I'm really on the fence about it.

That's pretty good! Hell, why not get both cars? Foxes aren't too expensive anymore.

 

How 'bout finding a used 2005 S197? Let somebody else take the depreciation hit, and your buy-in cost would be less than a new car (more money for mods!).

 

buy whichever one u like. but in reality, if u can afford the s197, you can probably afford both.

 

The S197 is just a technically superior car. MUCH stiffer chassis, much better weight distribution, better brakes, better handling and it's not based on a 1978 Fairmont and the S197 looks like a Mustang should. On the other hand the fox body is a good basis to build a hot rod. You can get a really good bang for your buck out of a fox body but you have to modify the crap out out it which can also be a lot of fun.

 

I love my '06, but if you're looking for an all out speed car, soup up a foxbody. They are infinitely cheaper than S197s and the S197 aftermarket has a long way to go to catch up. For what you pay for a new GT, you could have a 10 second fox.

 

Let me play devil's advocate here: get the s197. New car, new warrenty, and it looks infinately sweeter than the fox. It sounds like you have the money for mods, so I would mod the hell out of one of these and have a fast AND nice looking car.
