Default Shifting to fast?

hey all,
my buddy's father owns a private plot of land that has a great 1/4 mile strip on it and garage (my new best friend) and we were running tonight, very humid so were going again on wed. We had about 15 cars out there, vett's sti's Mach1, 04 GT, me and so on, it was awsome, anyways to my problem.
This has never happened to me before in my life, but i missed 2nd 3 times in a row tonight. Im shifting at 6400 rpms (mods below) and when I try to throw it into second, its almost as if it has a lock out on it. (im assuming the synchros arent catching up fast enough or somthing). Anyways wondering what you guys think because this was really frustrating me and making me look like an idoit. I did do a run shifting at 6K and second hit just fine, but it seems when i try to get my cars potental out since it pulls hard all the way to 6400 The synchros arent catchin up and it feels like im tryin to push the shifter through a wall, i used moderate strength on it, and didnt wanna rip it into gear just to get it going but wondering what the problem is.

The manual tranny hates 2nd gear under power shifting. I don't know if there are ways around it. I did hear a short trow shifter kit helped on some cars.

if you dont want your car to sit in your driveway-stuck in second gear like mine is right now, you may want to get a shifter and some solid engine mounts. my car had the same problem and i broke the second gear shift fork. the problem is the stock shifter assembly bolts to the body of the car with rubber bushings, and bolts to the trans with more bushings, so what you and me see when we go to shift to 2nd is the engine and trans under full load, flexing in the car due to soft engine and trans mounts, along with the flex in the shifter bushings, basically making 2nd gear to far for the shifter to reach. now i just ordered a pro 5.0 shifter and a C.H.E. engine torque limiter kit. thats about $430 dollars worth of parts that should make a huge difference (i hope) because your like me and love to slam gears as quick as possible, get a pro 5.0 or tri-ax because they have stop bolts to prevent you from overshifting. which is bad for your trans. as soon as i get my car fixed i will install the shifter and engine torque limiter ASAP. then after i break the new trans in i am going to switch to royalpurple synchromax fluid. i dont plan on getting solid mounts until i order my hooker longtubes. (which will be soon hopefully. good luck to you.

what if I replace the stock bushings? or do I need a short throw as well, because I like the look of the stock shifter myself, so I was thinking about new bushings and possibly the saleen adapter so i can keep the stock shifter

This has happened to me AFTER swithcing to a Hurst shifter and not powershifting (5800 RPM). I'll agree with the drivetrain torque issue.
Twister, do you have a link to the engine torque limiter? I used to be old school with my 460 Torino (chain and bolts), but I like those adjustable links with rod ends the best. Is that the type you are referring to?

GT06GT: that will be a more affordable approach and i have not heard anything negative about that setup. definately replace the bushings, as far as the short shift adapter, that is complately up to you. as i stated though i got the pro5.0 for the stop bolts. and the damn things weighs about 15lbs. its heavy duty... with the pro5.0 though you should still be able to use the stock shift **** and stuff. plus it comes with two plain black shift *****.

big dave: yes this product uses hiem joints (completely adjustable) to brace the engine... here is your link: powerhouse411 v-8 engine torque limiter $159.99

big dave, being your supercharged... you may want to get a set of prothane engine mounts and a rear trans mount as well, to make sure your completely solid, also why did you go with the hurst, i couldnt see using that shifter in a drag car. because no overshift protection... do you know where i can get just the hurst handle and shift ball though.??

I know i've seen both sold seperately somewhere. the ball was like $39 if I remember correctly. A few people have said the tranny has built in stops to protect it from overshifts. To be honest i'm not even sure how you can overshift, are you slamming the shifter so hard that you break something in the transmission? Seems like you'd break the bolt holding the shift arm on first.
