Does your factory Sirius sound like crap?
My 07 GT/CS came with the Shaker 1000 and factory Sirius. While the Shaker's sound quality is pretty good (compared to other factory stereos) when listening to my iPod through the Line in, FM, or CD, when I switch to Sirius it sounds like a low bitrate mp3. Very echoy and well, like a 64kbps MP3. I used to have XM in my 97 Mustang and it sounded just like a CD. Does everyone's Sirius have a noticable drop in sound quality, or is there a setting I need to turn on? I wouldn't think so, but I figured I'd check. I'm in the 6 month trial period, but if it continues to sound like something streaming over the web out of some guy's basement, I'm not going to pay for it and I'll end up putting in XM.

I have a Sirius Sportster 4 and stock Shaker 500 in my '06 GT. I'm using the FM transmitter since there's no external hook-up on the '06 model and it sounds pretty good to me. There's no noticable difference between FM radio and the Sirius (other than the selection of music and lack of commercials). I did have to adjust the Sirius unit's volume control to better match the radio so they were playing at the same level when I switch, but otherwise it's all good.

IMO Sirius sounds better than FM but not as good as a CD. I have not heard the factory setup however.I have had it in 3 cars with 1 with a full system.

I know that XM radio in a Chevy Equinox sounds like a tin can. Thought that was the nature of satellite radio? Sounds like streaming audio and randomly goes in and out of tune.

It's a problem all over for Satellite Radio, XM or otherwise. They're running into capacity issues and both camps are compressing the ever living crap out of the signal. I didn't get to hear XM back in the heyday as it only came to Canada in November but even I notice a difference in sound quality from November to now.
If you hit some of the enthusiast forums for the various Sat radio companies you can see numerous threads with people complaining. I still like my XM. The quality isn't what I like but I could change that if I splurged on a PIE I guess. Even then it wouldn't be 100%. XM is good at work and home though, still quite good for background music.
