what gears?
I am installing a saleen s/c kit when it gets hear next week but I am trying to decide which gears to go with or even if I should keep them stock for now. I was thinking 3.73 or 4.10 but I need a little insight from you guys. I drive this everyday to and from work (about 40 miles each way) so gas mileage is a concern and driveability. Please give any advice or experience with different gear setups. I have the stock 3.55s now.
So with the s/c and your concern with highway mileage and drivabilty, 3.73s definitely. 4.10 would be a bit much. You wont feel as much of a jump with the 373s but, they will definitely give you an extra kick. The 3.73s are definitely a safe and good bet.
Since you have a 5sd, going from a 3.55 to a 3.73 would not give you much "punch" for the money spent to change your rear end ratio...
A wise man once told me always to go at least two gear sizes from what you currently have or it doesn't pay to do it...
My friend has the same set up as you are getting and he went to a 3.90 from 3.55...
This is considered a two step jump so his performance is noticeable...
I run a Saleen S/C w/automatic and went from 3.31 to 3.73...
Good highway mileage and performance...
Many of my forum friends have automatics with a 4.10 and lose highway mileage because of the steep gear selection...
Your choice!!!
Good Luck, Dave

I would absolutely love to have 3.90s with mine, but wouldn't own Motive gears on a bet. So my recomendation would be the 3.73s from FRPP. The 4.10s would be more fun, but you wouldn't enjoy 1st gear very much on stock or regular street tires. Fuel mileage isn't going to be too noticeable. at 70mph you are only jumping about 300rpm.
nope stay stock 3.55
with the S/C you will make gobs of torqe, but with lower (higher number) gears you will be shifting like crazy, burning rubber accidently all the time (expensive tires !!!) you will lower your top speed, hurt your gass mialage (by about 2mpg) and first gear will become pointless.
i remember when the last generation mustang came with 3.08 and then 3.27, evryone was switching those out for 3.55 for the street, this was considerd the best street gear back then. And some where doing 3.73, 4.10 and even 4.30 but for track use.
if you had seriusly lumpy cams and massivly ported heads, that would shift the peak power higher in the rpm range, then i would recomend 4.10 maybe 3.73...but an S/C will makes massive amounts of earth moving torqe, negating the need for lower gears (higher multiplication of torqe) so stick with the perfectly good gears ford gave you stock.
