I have that option on my new 07 GT. I can't say for sure, but I think you're paying for the limited slip rear end, which is only available with the manual transmission.

Both the 3.31 and the 3.55 are limited slip. The 3.55 is only available on Mustang GT's with a manual. All automatic and all V6 Mustangs get the 3.31. I ordered the 3.55 on mine.

actually just found out for 05-06 3.55 are standard in GT manual, in all other mustangs 3.31 is standard.

for 07 ALL mustangs come with the 3.31, and 3.55 is an option on the GT.

WTF?! They UPPED the gearing?!

Nice for on the highway in top gear, but damn... I wonder what the 07 does in the quarter with that high a gear… And what happened to the top end…

You guys are correct. To summarize:

05/ 06 GT auto- 3.31 ratio standard
05/ 06 GT manual- 3.55 ratio standard

07 GT auto and manual- 3.31 ratio standard (in the US! In Canada, the 3.55 ratio is still standard with the manual)
07 GT manual- 3.55 ratio optional

ALL are t-lock regardless of the ratio.

Yeah, plus the '07s are slighty heavier as well.

I heard it here.

People were saying how they'll weigh more because of the GT500 needing more structural support, and Ford decided not to make two different chassis, so all '07 mustangs would end up weighing slightly more.
