Default intake pipe

I was looking at the induction pipe on my 05 gt. I found this honeycomb thing in the rubber hose. What is this? I took it out, cause it appears to restrict a lot of air, is this gonna hurt anything?

Leave it out. Those were only in the early 05's, Ford eliminated them mid-year. They do cause a bit of restriction, I seem to remember hearing it was reducing HP by 4 or 5.

It's a vapor trap it helps vapor from the engine from entering after the car is turned off. Take it out and enjoy 5 more horsepower.

Are they in the '06's also? I'd check, but she's gone getting tinted right now.

I thought it was for "fuel vapor" (i.e. to trap fuel coming out of the intake and suck it back in when you ran)? Not water vapor...

No, they are not in the 06's and anecdotally, they pulled them from the 05's somewhere mid-production...
