I would bitch if the car was made without the cap there like the old ones had. In my view it is part of the cars heritage to have it there. That is one thing that makes it so "retro".

Don't overlook the liability of this issue. Someone runs into you, even though it is their fault, and the car explodes or catches fire and you have a law suit with Ford and you insurance company abandoning you in a second.

50's, 60's hot rod flames look rice? The flames as well as painted stripes are forms of paint schemes; paint is not the same as a stuck on ornament that serves no functional purpose except to pose as a fake gas cap. I don't mean to be negative at all to those who have it; I'm just not especially happy with Ford throwing a fake cap there is all. Unlike you, I've never referred to anyone's paint scheme as 'useless'.
BTW the flames aren't useless. I have to push the ladies away (lol).

I have them both, the Simulated GT gas cap and the pop off real gas cap. It makes the car. It also provided a terrific place to mount the honeycomb panel. It allowed me to make a connection from the 70 Mach to the 06 GT. Yeah I know its meaningless to most. But its special to me.
