Default Getting Winter Ready; Rust treatment?

Hello all,
I bought my Mustang GT 8 months ago in Southern California but recently moved back to Montreal, Canada. I am getting prepared to my first real winter in 3 years and had a few question about keeping my car rust free.

First Question, I was told cars built in areas that get cold, wet winters are built with some special ingredient mixed into the metal parts to help with rusting. Would my Southern California bought Mustang have this done to it(I'm guessing the plant is in Michigan and they just ship them all over from there so hopefully they are all built the same)?

Second Question, What can you do to prevent rusting on that baby? Treatment, etc..

Thanks,
Pat

Nothing special that I know of in the metal. Undercoating will help. Depends on what they use on your roads up there. Salt, Mag-Nitrate, etc. Best thing is to wash the underside as often as necessary to keep salt and the other chemicals from being on too long and harming the metal.

I think they use a combination of salt and pebbles...very nice for the car.
Thanks for the info. I guess I'll have to go look into getting it treated.

Buy a winter beater. Problem solved.
