Thinkin' of dropping our 4.0L for a GT
[I posted this in the 4.0L section as well , but I figured the GT guys could answer this also]
Yes, I realize that I am one of the 4.0L section moderators, but my local dealer has a sweet left-over 2006 GT deluxe coupe sitting on their lot. It is Tungsten, with charcoal leather interior. I haven't crunched numbers with the salesman yet. But I have a question -
How much should I be able to get a GT for in relation to dealer invoice? I can work up dealer invoice on Edmunds, but the car is a left-over and I'm wondering if I can get it any cheaper than invoice. Your input would be appreciated.
Oh BTW, we would be getting rid of our 4.0L Explorer to get the GT. You guys didn't think I'd part with my beloved V6 ragtop, did you? The wife's lease on the Explorer is almost up, and I'm thinking rather than buy it out, I'd put her into a leftover GT (plus, I would get to drive it too).

I would expect to pay somewhere around invoice, true it is an 06, but you would get $1500 rebate, and 0% for 72 months, which you couldn't get on an 07. Invoice - rebate= awesome/72@ 0%= unbeatable.
Go for it!
Good Luck!

Hi Bill, you seem to be looking at the same color GT I just bought 3 weeks ago. 1st off, what's the sticker on it? Mine was $28,750, invoice was $25,900(according to dealership). It is a premium GT with interior "Upgrade Package", side air bags and 18" polished Bullitts, it's also a 5 speed manual. I realize Ford is now offering 0%/72 with $1000 off.....but I'm not sure if dealers are gonna be willing to go below invoice on '06s because of this. I paid $500.00 over invoice for mine($26,400). If I were you, just go for broke. Have in your mine what you feel is a good deal, but tell them you want below invoice, if at all possible. I tried to get my GT as close to invoice and hoped to get it below....but.....I was very happy with the deal I received. I went in with what I was willing to spend and tried for more(paying less for it), didn't get that, but I did get it for less than I originally thought. I'd say offer them $23,000 as a starting point(you mentioned it's a Deluxe GT, right?), I believe sticker on a stripper is $25,100 or so(just guessing), and I'm not aware of the options it might have.....maybe start at $22,500?(that would be a hell of a deal, that's V-6 money). Put your game face on and come out swinging, trust me, they want your money and they need to sell that car ASAP.

[I posted this in the V6 section too]
OK, I took the wife to the dealer tonight. They have only one 2006 GT: Deluxe, Tungsten/Charcoal, leather, auto, and that's it. It's a very basic car, and seems to be a step down from my Premuim V6 ragtop. The wife said that she would want the convertible, and I would get the GT (I'm OK with that concept). But this car is not as nice inside as my car, and I don't think I'd be happy with it, regardless of the deal. So we walked...
Driving home, we talked about it some more. With the Bullitt coming out in 2008, a Boss looking very likely, the new Shelby GT (not the GT500), and a restyle in 2009/2010, we dicided that we would turn in her Explorer, I will give her my V6 S197 ragtop, and I'll drive the '66 coupe 'til Ford offers something with more power at a reasonable price (optioned the way I want it).
Thanks for all the advice guys!!!

Yes, you ultimately have to be satisfied(and your better half even more so). The Shelby GT has me curious too.......
