Custom Sub Box
ORIGINAL: siggy14
I have the vert, no backseat access. Besides either way i would have some sort of box back there, whether it be that custom one or just a plan one you can buy from best buy etc..
And for optional bass, you have to give up the trunk space, just part of having the great stereo system, yeah you can get smaller, but you will not get the same bass response.

Why would you want sub boxes that block rear seat access to the trunk? I want something so that I can still lay down the seats and get into the trunk.. what happens when I go to the beach with that? Where do I put my surf board? Right now I lay the seats down and lay the board through the back seats into the trunk... that would kill your trunk space. Not to mention you would NEVER get to your spare tire... may as well call roadside assistance and look like a yuppy. JMO.... Id rather have side mounted subs like Drbob.
Someone here made a custom sub box about a month ago, cant remember who it was though, but he made a separate part for his amp and equilizer too, it was pretty sweet. Was a huge post with lots of pics, try searching for it.

fred, aside from all of the nay sayers i say go for it under a certain few conditions.
i am not sure how much experience you have with car audio but there are some things you need to know before jumping into building a sub box. number one is what kind of subs you have or are planning on purchasing, each sub responds differently to diferent types and sizes of boxes, in order to maximize sound quality you need to properly design the box.
and as far as the plexi glass goes, that is no designed to protect your subs, it is a bass reflex or bandpass box which is essentially a sealed and ported box combined.
my suggestion is to do some research on your install before you dive in head first, you will be much more pleased with the outcome.

Thanks,
Ya, I don't carry much in my trunk so losing trunk space aint a big deal. I know about the plexi glass, the added protection is just a plus. There are a ton of sites with info on building the boxes, and I've read most of them. :-) I'll post pics of the completed project when I finish (probably on monday).

From what I see, he has 5 Rockford Fosgate Amps (Expensive) and two Rockford Fosgate Punch Subs (assuming expensive because it looks like it takes an amp to power each sub.) I also see two power capacitors to store power for those large bumps, and two distribution blocks.
I'm guessing the two subs on the top rack are used to power the back speakers (one amp each). In the second row, the two side ones power the amps and the middle powers the front speakers.
Just guessing, but thats how I would set it up. I'm assuming you have a touchscreen system, maybe alpine or custom built carputer. Probably cost upwards of $1600 for just that trunk area.

Personally.. if I were setting it up.. Id use one to power the front 2 door subs.. one to power the front 2 coax speakers.. one to power the rear deck lid speakers and one for each of the 2 trunk subs. Seems most logical to me, but Im just wondering how much all that was and how he has the sub box setup in the tire well...
What I have is two 12in subs in the trunk two 8in subs one for each door and componants in the doors and in the rear deck. One amp per sub and one amp for all the componants. also in this system is two one fared caps one going to distribution block. EVERYTHING is Rockford Fosgate speakers wires caps all of it. The head unit is a Alpine IVA-W200 touch screen. The entire trunk was built by myself
