Ahhhh....the Bullitt chase scene
I'm sure this has been on here before, but it is sweet music to my ears. I want my car to sound just like Steve Mcqueen's 68! What do you guys think is the closest sounding exhaust in today's stangs to the 68 bullitt?

RE: Ahhhh....the Bullitt chase scene
I have not looked it up, but I fully expect that the old FE engines had a different firing order than the mod motors. This coupled with the fact that I'm sure that the original Bullit car had no crossover pipe would account for the biggest part of the sound difference. Changing mufflers and such has very little to do with sound characteristics.
In the late sixties, early seventies, when most every kid in town had a car with a V8 and glasspacks, I could here a car go by and tell you if it was a Chevy, Ford or Mopar. Most anyone in those days would tell you that the Mopars sounded the best. The difference was NOT mufflers or exhaust components, it was firing order. The various firing orders with no crossovers have distinct sounds. The fact that no one had ever heard of such a thing as a catalytic converter made a differenc as well, of course.

My best guess would be Straight Pipes and full throttle all the time and you might get close to the sound of the all mighty FE, man those were wonderful motors, I miss my old 390.... But yes thanks for the clip!!! I threw it on my myspace page so i can catch it anytime i want, and all who visit get educated.

Check out my commentary in the Exhaust thread.
I put those IMCO pipes on my car JUST for the Bullet sound.
now - - - without prompting - - I drove by the owner of the company I work for returning from lunch and he happened to be standing outside by the parking lot. When I got out of my car, he commented "Wow Rich, your cart sounded like that car in that movie - um - er - the one with Steve McQueen - um - Bullet I think it was!"
