Washing the Engine (CAI)?
I need to wash my engine, its gotten pretty dirty, my question is what is the best way to protect my CAI from water? Any other engine bay concerns during washing to watch for?

I pressure washed my engine several times. Cover the CAI filter with a plastic bag and secure it with duct tape to keep it from coming off if you spray it. you should also cover the computer.

The manual has a little diagram telling you what to cover, battery, airbox, computer, distributor..
If you regularly clean it (not weekly, maybe bi-monthly) you won;t have to get hardcore with the engine degreasers and power washers.
I cover mine up, run the hose over it, spray it with some simple green, rinse it off, leave it sit to dry while I wax up the painted parts and put protectant on the rubbers and plastics. Just regular water from the hose does a good enough job. Like I said if you dont let it get too dirty it wont be hard to clean.
Don't do it when the engines hot (cold water + hot engine could = cracked block) and do it when you know the car will have a good long time to sit before driving, to let it completely dry off, just in case a little bit of water got where it shouldnt.

Ditto that I usually spray "armor all" or "grape juice" protectants on the plastic intake and hoses wipe once and let dry looks better than showroom. But if you live in dusty area dust will attach to it.

RE: Washing the Engine (CAI)?
Just a follow-up: I cleaned my engine yesterday for a Sat. night get together at the Pavilions in Scottsdale, AZ. Per the guidance below, I used "simple green". After covering the air cleaner and computer, I sprayed the simple green on the engine and inside the engine bay and then rinsed and few moments later with a hose. After drying, I applied some armor all on hoses and plastic parts, it looked great, very little effort and the car ran fine that night. Thanks again for the advice.
