Default GT300 or GT350 ???

I've seen a lot of different door stickers from GT300 to GT350 to Mach1 to Boss. What is the difference? I was assuming the 300 or 350 was referring to HP since the new Shelby has GT500 on it. Is this correct?

No difference, just some morons trying to pass the car off as something it is not.

Boss 244 and 281 are popular too.

I have yet to see a GT300 anywhere, but Ford sold new Shelby GT350's starting in 1965 (with small block V8's), running through 1970. The GT500's (with big-block V8's) were sold from 1967-1970. Now you can buy aftermarket badges and stripes for the original Shelbys, and apply them to new S197 Mustangs. Some cars are built up to pose as something they are not, while others are created as a tribute to an older model. Putting GT500 badges/stripes/facia on any S197 Mustang would be posing, as Ford now sells GT500's (the same would be said of a V6 owner putting GT emblems on their car). However, Ford is not building new GT350's (or a GT300), so an owner could modify his/her car using GT350 badges/stripes as a tribute to the original GT350's from the 1960's. Currently Ford does not sell new Bullitt/Mach I/Boss Mustangs, so cars that are modified to look like that are also tribute cars. Once Ford starts producing them new however, these cars may look like posers.

There have been rumors as to why Carroll Shelby called the original cars a GT350, but none of them, to my knowledge, has been verified. The original GT350's were rated at 306 bhp, whereas hi-po 289 Mustangs were rated at 271 bhp. A '67 GT500 was rated conservatively at only 355 bhp.

Well put, Hopup. Getting your point across and not sounding rude. Hard to find gentlemen with criticism these days, always punks that beat you down, kudos.

I saw a special on Rides about the Super Snake cars from Carrol Shelby and Unique Performance. In that special they had an interview with Carrol about the naming of the GT350. Basically it was 350 steps from his office to something across the street (don't remember what exactly because it's been a year since I saw that episode). True story.....I swear.

I need to see that episode again to find out what was across the street.

There's confusion because consumers are putting stickers on to clone something. Those original badging stickers were put on by Ford or Shelby, not by consumers. I can't see putting all these different sticker choices on the new mustang. some folks call it a tribute and to each their own. Just doesn't strike me right at all but hey everyone has their thing so no matter what we have fun doing what we do anyway.

I think the historical significance and applications have been made pretty clear already. As for people's opinions, the bottom line is it's your car, and you shouldn't give a second thought to what someone else thinks.

i was thinking white shelby stripes and center mounted fogs on my car to give it the '68 shelby GT look.

if i get the bling blong to super/turbocharge it to 350 i might think of a rocker panel stripe, shelby style, but something different like "TC350" for turbo, etc..

but sticking GT350 on it is kind of like the ricers we all hate with Type-R badges on their civics.
