Matching GT500 style dead pedal cover
Hello all,
My company has been working on a matching dead pedal pad for the 2007 GT500 style pedals that are also an option on other mustang models. These pedals are also available for retrofit on the 2005 and 2006 cars.
The pedal has been CAD designed to match the factory pedal style and cover up the carpeting in the dead pedal footrest area to prevent staining and soiling of the factory carpet (especially the lighter colors)
Here are the prototype images. I do not have the mounting arrangement finalized yet but I am working on ideas to keep it in place and hopefully not require drilling holes in the car. But that is not as easy as it sounds as most dead pedal pads are attached with screws. I would like some feedback on whether you guys would be willing to drill 2-4 small holes in the existing dead pedal wedge for mounting purposes.
It is constructed of CNC laser cut 304 polished stainless with a final brushed finish and 1/16" thick to ensure it will not bend or dent. It is shaped to cover most of the carpeted area that gets dirty from normal use. Because it is high grade 304 stainless it is highly resistant to pitting and corrosion from winter road salt if you use your car year round.
I don’t have final pricing yet as it would greatly depend on the demand for this item. But if anyone is interested in getting one of these, send me an e-mail, and I will look into doing a production run and getting pricing finalized ASAP for what ever quantity I get demand for. Maybe I can work out a group price for forum members or something for the first runs.
Basically at this point I am trying to figure out what kind of quantity we are looking at on this item.
PM me of you have any thoughts or I posted a poll as well. This post was intitially deleted and now is back with the assistance of the mods.
I also have a source for the factory pedals themselves and may be able to supply those as well at under CDC and Ford prices but cannot say for sure yet.
Sincerely,
Nick Korinis
note: Please ignore the clutch pedal pad that is damaged. I think it was a defect as a chunk came off of it shortly after install. I haven’t had a chance to replace it yet.

RE: Matching GT500 style dead pedal cover
My first thought when seeing it was damn that is HUGE, but seeing it installed it looks pretty good and it really has to be that big to cover the carpet. I would be very interested if the price was fairly low. That said if this is machined from a block it looks like you would have 95% waistage in material and the price would have to be high. I would be just as happy with a piece that did not have the sides to it. Then it could be stamped sheetmetal and could be cheaper. Just a thought.

Thanks for the input. If the majority of people want it smaller I would be more than happy to change it. I made it that big to cover the areas of carpet that got dirty on my own car after a short time (which has light gray carpet). The right side of the deadpedal gets dirty from the side of my shoe grazing it if I am not perfectly centered on the clutch pedal. Also, I toyed around with painting the sides to match the carpet or black at one point, but thought it looked kinda neat as is.
As far as how it is made, it is not machined from a block. The piece is cut from polished stainless sheetmetal with a CNC laser cutter, then bent in a brake, then a 1" tig weld is applied at the lower right corner. Then the weld is smoothed/polished and the whole thing brushed to match the pedals.
Right now it is approx 1/16" thick metal (I have to find the reciept for the sheet I ordered to quote exact guage). It may be a bit heavier than needed and I might drop the thickness a guage size, but only if it still is very dent resistant and doesent effect durability or appearance.

the sell for me would be NOT having to drill into the pedel.
And even as far as drilling is concerned, if you pull the carpet back and look, all it is a big chunk of foam. So I dont know what kind of fastener would hold in it well.

How is the clearance between the dead pedal and the clutch pedal?
Hard to tell from the picture angle, but it looks like my shoe might hit the dead pedal while pushing in the clutch.
