vibration in wheels

RE: vibration in wheels
You probably need "hubcentric rings". They will take out all of the vibration. The wheels are not made to fit the mustang even if they are drilled to our bolt pattern unless they are OEM. I'm suprised the guys at your shop didnt say anything about these. They are about 50 bucks and you can get them from offline. What they do is make sure your wheel fits snugly and there is no gap on the wheel bore. I had this problem on my last car, and once I put them on it was smooth sailing, no vibration at all. Now I have them on and it rides like a champ.

RE: vibration in wheels
UPDATE: they did put on hubcentric rings...but the vibration's really weird. it happens only when i make left turns. when i make right turns the vibration in the steering wheels goes away. i have yet to removed the clips from the studs.
any idea what the problem could be? its annoying as hell.
could it be a possible alignment problem or some other problem not related to the wheels?

RE: vibration in wheels
sorry bro, I don't know what to say now. This is a longshot, but once the genius' at the tire shop put the tire tread going backwards on the wheel and that was very very annoying. Maybe that is what they did????????????? If not I dont know what to say. Maybe take it to another shop?? Good luck in whatever you do.

RE: vibration in wheels
I had a 97 T-Bird and chased a tire/wheel vibration for a long time. What I found out is the Hunter machine works wonders! They can pinpoint the imbalance and rotate the tire around the wheel to minimize high/low spots before adding the weights. I'm guessing that when you are turning right, you're loading up the left front tire and the imbalance is more pronounced because of the weight added. Take it to a shop with a Hunter balancer, have them record the wheel/tire balance specs and then let them balance them with the road force variation machine. Then, have them record the specs after the balancing. I suspect this will solve your problem or at least eliminate the wheels/tires.

RE: vibration in wheels
ok, so im revisitng my own thread.
so finally i got my wheels road force balanced with the gsp9700..it seems like the vibration is slightly worse now!!!! there's no clips, i have hubcentric rings. according to those guys, the wheels were fine with 12-18 pounds of force...
i tlaked to the guy for a long time and he said vibration in the steering wheel was normal for 20 inch rims. somehow i dont buy it. from what you guys are saying it seems like if its balanced properly there should be very little vibration..there is a definite shimmy in the steering wheel around 50-60 mph.
any other ideas guys? i paid 160 for the road force balancing and there is no improvement, they said the tires and wheels were fine, they didnt find any imperfections (i guess everything looked good on the machine). i want a second opinion but i dont want to get charged again.
man should i just live with this? its not a huge deal, but i want to know if the vibration is at all normal...if its not balanced right then i wont be satisfied until it is.
what do you think i should do now? im lost...

RE: vibration in wheels
100% sure theres no round clip on one stud on each wheel?
Next step maybe find a shop thats got a on the car runout meter or whatever its called.
They lift the car on a rack, put it in gear running and put this device up to the tire and it checks for runout right on the car
