A/T shifter options

A/T shifter options
Ok...I've searched the threads and cannot find one with the A/T shifter options as a topic. I am in love with the Composite X Street Bandit from B&M......but's it's listed for 4 speed only. Most of the time I will be just putting the car in drive and at the track I would only use 4 gears anyway. Has anyone tried to hook up the current A/T shifters to our 5-speed 5R55S?

I dont think it will work. The 5r55S is shifted by electric solenoid - not a cable or linkage like older auto trannies

No offense....but you're wrong....at least partially. Yes, once the transmission is set at the 'drive' position, the gear changes are controlled by solenoids........but they have been for years. You can still manually place the transmission into all the gears which is what the cable is for.

RE: A/T shifter options
B&M has one under development, still testing, Yes there is a cable, it controls 1-4 with 5th being an electronic O/D, The gate is a bit wierd which is why one of the other shifters will not work. You do have the ability to manual shift 1-4, but putting it drive and hitting the o/d switch will accomplish the same thing as you are looking for, but you will need to have the transmission program changed in the 'puter to keep the converter locked in in 3rd and 4th to avoid damage due to low pressures

RE: A/T shifter options
Archion, thanks for the info. I hope the shifters B&M develops will include the Street Bandit design. I've had various B&M shifters for the A/T Mustangs I've had and have always had good experiences with them. I figured the gate was the issue as B&M already has 4-speed shifters available.
Do you know where I can get more info about the shifter they are developing?

Best I can say is keep up on the press releases, It would not surprise me if they actually do it in the Console Hammer family like they did for the AODE/4R70W family for the 94-04 cars, that took a couple of years to be designed and approved

RE: A/T shifter options
It is a definate sale once it goes public, from the looks of things it will be designed by mustang lovers for mustang lovers... And will be an easy swap like the console hammer retaining the stock cable and such.
