Body Work Help Please!!!!
So I'm ordering the following parts for my car either today or tomorrow, well...maybe
CDC Classic Chin Spoiler
CDC Ducktail Spoiler (Painted)
Roush Hood Scoop (Painted)
Xenon Side "C" Scoops (Painted)
Sequential Taillights
Mirror Covers (Painted)
Now I'm going to be putting on the mirror covers, and doing the sequential's my self. But that still leaves me with my other parts. So I just got back from getting estimates on getting these parts put on my car and they were OUTRAGEOUS, I mean the only part that needs any paint is the Chin Spoiler. So I figure it really wouldn't run all that much, but I guess I'm wrong. I was quoted at about $1200 bucks the first place, and around 1200-1300 the second place. I'm really confused here, all I am getting done is the Hood Scoop Put on, Ducktail put on, the wholes filled in from old spoiler, the side scoops put on, and the chin spoiler (which does need to be sealed, or fabed in). Do any of yall out there have any of the parts I have listed and could possibly give me an estimate of what yall paid to get them installed? I am afraid to really do any of the body work on my car so I'm gonna get it professionally done. Though I didn't think it would be that much....

body work is labor intensive so your looking at $38 to 80 per hour. to do it right it would take about 24 hours + supplies so 1200 is about right for Texas. can you get it done for 300 - sure but it would look & fit like dog turd. bty. I had owned a bodyshop a long time ago. after putting in a home body shop and buying all the supplies I was not suprised to find out all the prices for materials went up 10x. The epa has made it hard to paint a car for cheap and well labor.....people have to eat you know.
You can get the CDC Classic painted for $150-$250.
The rest is cake and you can do it easily EXCEPT for one problem. You do need to have the decklid holes filled. There lies the big problem and cost. The metal is extremely thin and even a body shop welder with experience working with this needs to work slowly to avoid panel shrinking/warping. Then the declikd needs to be painted and really the adjacent qtr top surface needs to be painted and cleared or it will look different. A couple of other folks have said the following and with few exceptions I agree it is true. "No matter how good the shop is, over time you will see where the holes were filled" ...this is mostly true because materials cure, shrink, expand with different weather temp extremes. You may need to have it redone in a few years to be perfect. That aside, I'd say 1/2 the cost is in the decklid and ducktail mounting. The price seems about right to me. If you had a spoiler delete car you could just get the Classic painted (and your mirrors too) for cheap and do the installs youself.
I must say that while I like the CDC ducktal, if the down tabs are solid (and I don't know if they are) I would trim/taper them down so the end of the tab is about a 1/32" thick. I do not like the elevated tab edge. It screams "aftermarket add-on part" IMO. If you know. please tell me if the down tabs are solid or hollow. Of course you wouldn't get a pre-painted unit if you were going to do this.
It'd be nice if a dealer would swap out your decklid/spoiler with a spoiler delete one in the same color. Forget about getting a private party to do this. It would be worth giving the dealer $100-$200 and yours for a SD decklid.
They'd probably do it if you threw a few bucks in the pot. ...would save you $$$ and give you a better end product.
