Tail Light Covers....Illegal?
I am planning on getting the tail light covers found HERE. If you read thier description they say for offroad only. Why in the world would these be illegal for the street? Are these Illegal for the street? I plan on putting these on in combination with the honeycomb panel.
I hope dmhines doesnt mind but attached it a pic of the taillight covers installed.
I live in Texas.

I have had covers on my cars before and plan on getting them on my stang soon and I never had any hassles from the police about it and I've been pulled over a few times with them on. I live in Chicago though, so I'm not sure about how the cops are in your area. I think you'll be ok.

Riven,
I have had those tail light bezels on for months. I have had countless cops behind me, and they have never posed a problem yet. I think maybe the Moss disclaimer is more for the smoked headlight covers....

I've had mine on for 5 months now. Had them seen by several cops behind me--including a blue light reflection for speeding. Never an issue. I did have the smoked covers delivered first, but was afraid of the liability of being rear-ended and some bozo using the I could not see your lights through the smoked "illegal" taillight covers.

Well the bezels are not covers- they just go around the stock tail lights. I've been seeing them and am thinking they look good.
I have the Lund smoked headlight covers and the first day I had them on I went into a parking garage. I turned on my headlights as usual when in a parking structure of any kind and my headlights didn't show on anything! Had to use the fogs, which is cooler anyway. I don't know why they say they are illegal if you're just using them for during the day... maybe because there are times when you'll need to flash your brights? I'll use them on long trips during the day for sure. I only have 12,000 miles and am starting to see scratches on the stock, clear headlight covers.
I would never use rear taillight covers, like the ones that peel off, when driving! Dumb move if you ever see that.

I had contemplated the static cling tints but legal or not (and I don't know the law on this in MA, if there even is one) but I didn't want to take the chance that someone might not see the brake lights as well, possibly in bright sunny conditions or as you say use it as an excuse. If you do end up in court, especially if there was a passenger injury in your car, since this is not the factory design I just don't know or trust what one particular judge would rule in court. Just the hassle alone isn't worth it should an incident occur; and I do have custom fab on my decklid and don't feel like doing that again if I can help it. ...simply couldn't justify the possible fallout on this one.

I have the GTO brand smoked taillight covers, and they are not illegal. You can see plenty of light through them, If you can't see the light than you shouldn't be driving. They are still plenty bright through the smoked plastic. They have never flown off or come loose. I duno , I love them, The cops around here are well let's say, a-holes and I have gotten pulled over for speeding and never have they said anything about them to me. Cops have even told me that they look so bada$$ on my black stang.
I would not not get them because your scared someone won't see your lights. Trust me they'll see them. Even during the day therye real bright. I have no worries of anyone ever hitting me because they cant see my lights.

I understand what you are saying and really would like to see what mine would look like especially with the absence of the gas cap and lock; it's just whackos that are driving out there I don't trust. They might see the brake lights ok if they were actually paying attention. Been hit twice, both times pretty hard in the back of my 2000 Mits Galant. Both times other party was doing other sh__ and not watching. One reason I haven't bought the Harley yet.
