Industrial Fallout....Warranty Work
Just a quick note on something that I recently found out. About three weeks ago I noticed some serious paint blemishes on my black 06 GT. I was waxing it and felt some serious bumps and grooves instead of the normal "smooth as glass" feel. After closer inspection I noticed hundreds of blemishes in the paint. It looked like it was rusting under the clear coat. Of course, panic set in and I took it right down to the local dealer to complain about the crappy paint job. The body shop manager came out to look at it and after about 6 seconds of looking at my panic ridden face and poorly painted car said..."Industrial fallout." I expected a long speech on how it is "normal" and "nothing to worry about," but instead he said, "When can you leave it with us for a whole day?"
It turns out that this is a common problem with all paint jobs (Google search "Industrial Fallout") and it is covered under warranty. The body shop manager was really cool and told me that Ford doesn't really advertise it because it is an expensive warranty fix, but all Fords are covered for 12 months or 12,000 miles from the first "in-service" date of the vehicle. After a day of acid bathing and clay blocking, I got my car back from the dealer looking like it just came off the assembly line. It is truly perfect again, and no little paint blemishes. If you too have this problem, take it down to your dealer and demand an acid bath. It looks bitchin' and on darker cars makes the paint really stand out. It also got out the wax swirls from the previous owner's inability to properly wax a car. They even detailed the inside. I couldn't be happier.
In case you didn't know about this little piece of your warranty, it may save you a few hundred bucks in the detailing field. Less detailing money equals more speed add-on's!!
