Any bad turbo experiences?
I've heard a lot of good about the turbo systems for the v8. Have'nt heard alot of bad yet. My last four cars hsve been turbocharged, all from the factory.
Just want to know if anyone has any bad tales about any kits on the market right now.

I definitely prefer turbo over a s/c anyday of the year. Controlled boost (you can run at 8psi daily and when you need it with your boost controller pump it to 20ish). Less Broken belts, doesn't steal hp to make hp. I haven't heard anything bad out some of the turbo kits. Just the usual clearing isues, and I recomend getting a horizontal intercooler, some versions uses a vertical intercooler.

I've spoken to a few guys that have done both the Hellion and Powehouse setups, and they are all loving it. Like androdz said, the only real issues are making room for the install, but both companies seem to have figured that out. I don't know how much of a pain to install they are, I guess it depends on what kit you go with. And considering the belt slip problems I seem to be having with my Saleen s/c, I can't say for sure that I wouldn't have gone with a turbo if I had a chance to start over.
I haven't heard anything bad happening with turbo setups yet. And I'd imagine if there were any failures, it would be the result of improper tuning. You won't believe what you'll get away with on these 3V motors if your tune is solid. But most blown engines I've seen so far have been the result of bad tunes or use of the wrong aftermarket internals.
I say if you're interested in a turbo kit for your GT.........go for it. Everything I've seen says you won't regret it.

Thanks guys. I've had 2 DSM's, a WRX, and a STi. I'm definately more comfortable with a turbo set-up. Was just wondering if there were any bad tles out there.
Right now I'm looking between the group buy on the Saleen HO kit and the kit fron HP Performance.

When the factory puts a turbo on a car they put many $ into research the installation. Generally they drive with good manners and everything fits.
With aftermarket kits there is not as much research $ so you have to make sure you get what YOU want. Some kits offer different size turbo's. It depends on whether you want quicker spool and responsiveness or more power capacity.
There is a lot of plumbing with turbos. Some people have reported interference problems with the tubing and other parts like the front facia. Ground clearence is also reduced with some kits and can be a serious issue if your car is lowered.
If I were you I would narrow down to the kits that have the power level and rpm range you are looking for and then search for installs of those specific kits for details.
Good luck and let us know what you find.

This is the kit from HP.
It uses a 60mm turbo, which should spool a little quicker that some of the bigger ones that come with other kits. Still capable of enough power for my daily driver. Comes with fp, inj, tuner, and all pipes are ceramic coated.
For $4500 I'm really considering this.
The kit is pretty new, and I wonder if anyone hase this yet.

I actually drove an 06 GT with a Saleen SC on it, and frankly I was not that impressed. It seemed great in 3rd under heavy throttle, but I was expecting more down low power. I am thinking it was not set up correctly.
As they say - we all buy horsepower, but we drive torque. I am still attempting to figure out the right blend of mods for my 07 to make it a torque monster.
Saleen might be one of the least efficient Superchargers out there from what I am hearing. They offer a 475 HP package for the SC, but that is Crank HP. My Kenne Bell SC is putting out over 520 HP at the crank, and was dyno'd yesterday at 443whp with 416lbs torque. You do the math. And the cost of the SC is abut the same. Kenne Bell is known for having one of the most efficient, and the quitest SCs out there. www.kennebell.net When I heard a Saleen SC it sounded must like there was gravel in the engine. I didn't like the sound at all. Maybe some folks do and that's fine. Just not for me. Also, KB SCs have a very flat torque curve across the RPM band. Very impressive if I do say so myself. Here is a pic of my KB install.
