Default Offset wheel question

Ok..My Stock wheels are 17 x 8 Bullets with 45 MM Offset......

Now..My question is If the Wheels i am looking at has a 50 MM offset does that mean it will the wheel will stick out futher by 5 MM or be in more by 5 MM...

I see alot of wheels with 24 and 36 MM offsets...The same appplies..do they stick out more or in...Thanks..

I prefer the wheels top be even with the fender lip, there seems to be alot or room for the wheels to stick out a little futher..

I believe those offests 24mm & 36mm are for 8.5 wide & 10" wide pre '05 mustangs wheels (If those wheel were bolted up on our '05+ Mustangs they would stick out about one inch more then or curent wheels do.
36mm ofset fits our car using 8.5 width wheel. A 10" wide wheel on our car has 45mm offset.
Smaller the positive offest (all numbers posted so far are positive) futher out the wheel will sit IF the wheel width stays the same.

Well that depends on the width as stated.

If you have 17x8 +45 and 17x8 +50 the +50 will be tucked in by 5mm.

What is the offset measured against? From what to what?

Offset is measured from the middle of the width of the wheel. So the total width of the wheel makes a big difference in the math. 45 offset on a 8" wheel is not the same as 45 offset on a 10" wheel. Here's a link that should explain it a little better.

A 17x8 with a 50mm offset will be IN more as the center (bolt face) is outward by 5mm more from center. ...can't say I've ever seen a 17x8 50mm rim before before but whatever. Either way you won't notice the difference in 5mm, that's only about 1/5 of an inch.

18x8.5 50 and 17x8 45 will look the same.

Right. Almost exactly the same; you will see no difference in outward location of the rim.
