Default Thinking about Nitrous - Got questions

Well I got my feet wet with the exhaust and I've decided I'm going to jump right in and go for nitrous as it seems a lot you guys swear by it. How does nitrous work, though? I mean I've seen those silly fast and furious movies but what will this mod really do to my car? How long is the extra power available? Installation details? Any help and information you guys can lend to educate me on this would be appreciated

Go to Brenspeed web site, he explains and has pictures of the install of the Zex system, its pretty fool proof and safe, alot of built in safe gaurds. I'm using the 75 shot with Brenspeed 91 oct. tune, but you need to use the 93 oct. when your going to spray. Anything past that you would need a different tune and colder plugs. It added 60 rwhp, it suppose to last about 15 sec. I f you go this route , you'll need some et drag radials for the track, I spun super bad, I could not use the spray until I was out of first gear.

Nitrous is a wnderful thing, if you do your research and spend the cash to get it done properly, you will have great results. First of all N20 is not flamable, explosive, anyhting like that. Its a gas that is put compressed in a lil bottle under high pressures. When sprayed into the engine it works as an agent to help bur the fuel, that is all. A bottle would last you quite a few passes, and probably a few minutes on the street(although make sure you obey your local traffic rules ). ITs fairly easy to install as well, you will have a little nossle in your intake tract, a bottle mounted in the trunk,a steeel braded line going under the car from the bottle to a box in the engine bay that houses the solenoids, then a line going from the box to the nossel, a line going from the fuel rail to the box and the box to the bottle, then your stuff to wire it up. Now what it can do is this, give you 75-125 cheap hp depending on the jets you select, but it can also burn out compression rings and cause detonation if not used properly. This means if you use it with to warm of a plug, too much timing, or at anything below 2500 rpms and WOT. Theres alot to learn, the internet has plenty of accurate info on it.

Personally id like to know what kind of mods you already have, id reccomend going with exhaust, intake, tune before stepping into the power adder realm

What he said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I love mine and also found that first gear with street tires are worthless so I bought one of these to go with the system.

Clicky

You will also need a bottle warmer to get the most out of your system and be able to properly tune it on a dyno. The reason is the bottle pressure will be more consistant with the warmer and therefore give you a better A/F mixture reading to tune from.

I think you'll be happy with the 75 HP shot the ZEX kit will provide. In response to Cain's post, Nitrous is compressed and stored in the Nitrous Bottle where it is stored in it's liquid form. When you "Spray", the nitrous is expelled from the Nitrous Bottle and it changes from a liquid into a gas. The phase change from Nitrous Oxide (Liquid) to Nitrous Oxide (Gas) results in the nitrous oxide gas being really cold. There are two primary benefits of Nitrous Oxide in increasing the power potential of your engine. The main benefit is that Nitrous carries it's own Oxygen molecule to the combustion chamber and you are chemically forcing more oxygen into the engine than it can naturally draw in. A naturally aspirated internal combustion engine is only capable of drawing in a certain amount of air into the engine. Nitrous Oxide is made up of 2 molecules of Nitrogen and 1 molecule of Oxygen. The second benefit is that since the gaseous nitrous oxide is cold, it cools down the intake charge allowing for a more dense air/fuel mixture.
Think of Nitrous as a "chemical supercharger." A turbo or supercharger compress air and force more air into the engine than it can naturally draw in.

Hope this brief explanation helps you understand how nitrous works.

First guys, thanks so much for the info. The only thing I've done to the car so far is SLP LMs. This car makes me want to spend a lot of money.

id reccomend trying some other bolt ons before going all card in on the N20 stuff, get an intake and a tune first, ride on that then do the spray.

Maybe even wheels/tires as a first mod. I wish I would have done those first. You will need better tires for traction issues once you start doing any heavy modifications like nitrous anyway.

The Zex system will only activate at wot, this is set during the installation. I agree get a tune and cai system first.
