Default Cigarette Lighter

I know it's 'taboo' but has anyone succesfully installed a working cigarette lighter into the 12V power outlet in the dash of an 06 Mustang?
Dealer told me it was a no-go & I won't bother if I have to use the outlet in the console.
If so, do you have to install a different receptacal in place of the 12V power outlet, or just plug in a Ford lighter?
Thanks

I'm glad mine did not come with one in it. I don't allow anyone to smoke in my car. The only smoke I allow are from the rear tires spinning[sm=gears.gif]

12v poewr outlet and a cig lighter should be the same thing, if Im not mistaken. Hell just try stickin in a regular cig lighter from your local auto parts store and see if it works (which it should). I smoke, and if I couldnt smoke when Im drving... oh man watch out road rage.

a cig lighter can act like a 12V power outlet but some times they use a diff type of 12V outlet that can't be used as a cig lighter

I don't think the 12V outlet is designed to handle a cig lighter. It might work, but it might also catch fire.

I smoked from 16-30 and quit cold turkey after a 3 month long soar throat. It's easy to quit if you have will power and you have no idea how bad your feel right now until you quit.

I have never and never will ever smoke
my brother smokes so much that the walls of his house are filled with smoke odor and it gives me a headache
if you want to smoke fine but I think ford is trying to stop you by not putting a lighter in

Smoke as well, dont smoke in my new car, but the old one I do. The two sockets are different, it needs the heat activated retension tabs in the socket to hold the lighter. There is a smokers pack available from Ford that consists of a new lighter and socket and a cupholder ashtray. Last time I checked it was a 50 dollar option. The powerpoint up top does have a strong enough circuit, as this is an option on the car. It just requires dissassembly of the dash panel above the radio to mount the lighter socket.

I dont think a 12v outlet will handle the heat of the cig lighter. I think it actually has to be designed for a lighter.
