Default Vert top replacement.

Last night some a$$hole decided to try and help himself to my stereo system (>$3k in equipment) but failed. They did succeed however in cutting to 12in. gashes into my converible top.

I'm now going through the daunting process of an insurance claim for the damage, which ford has allready quoted me about $2300 +tax.

Does anyone have any prior experience on replacing the tops on these cars? I'm told that it will take about 3 days total at the dealer.

Boy that really sucks! Did you have any kind of alarm or, the stock one?

Any thoughts of upgrading to the cloth top?

$2300 seems overly expensive. I've seen the replacement top material with back glass for (I thought) $600 so $1700 labor is overly expensive.

That really sucks. The dealer will most likely sub-contract the work out to a local upholstery shop (and add a mark-up to the real cost). Check your local phone book for upholstery shops (auto and/or boat). Get some quotes from the ones you feel conformatable with (ask for references if needed). Best of luck to you...

Sorry man that really sucks, that is a great fear of mine.

I would definately try to find a local upholstry shop if I were you. I had my top replaced on my camaro and it only cost me $750 including install. Dealers will always mark-up and sub contract that type of work. A local shop can get it from ford or another supplier. I went with an aftermarket brand, it was cheaper and much better quality than the original from chevy.

Do some homework in the end you will save big bucks if you can find the right little shop who puts pride in their work and is willing to give your car love it needs.

Wow - that's sure seems high but, hell, everything costs and arm and a leg anymore.

You might want to investigate having a cloth top (an '07 option) installed instead of vinyl.
