The dealer told me that it cost about $3000 when my top was replaced under warranty. They replaced the frame too, since it was crooked. It took them two days to do it, and the guy doing the work had plenty of experience, doing several that week.

The new roof is much easier to latch than the old one. However, I noticed that when it's down, it's about half an inch taller than the old one was. I used to be able to see light under the rear spoiler from my rearview mirror, but not anymore. Oh well, no big deal.

Why was it replaced under warranty?

The frame was installed crooked, to the left by about half an inch, so that it rubbed when the top was raised and lowered. My top stays mostly down and isn't raise or lowered very often, but within half a year it had worn a hole through the vinyl where it was rubbing. I was planning to just put something on it to keep it from wearing more, since it didn't show unless you looked for it, but I asked the dealer about it first and they offered to replace it for me. So I had them do the work.

My top has a 1/4" tear on the right rear right where the frame is and I've been contemplating taking it in and getting them to look at this under warranty. I'm guessing they will try to blame me or someone else for the tear but it's been there from about day 3. I put my top up and down about 20 times a week so I wonder if it's just wear?

Hey,

Sorry to hear that.
I ran into the same problem. They did not get away with the radio but the put a big cut on the top.
How much did you end up paying?

solution: quote dealer for the insurance, find some place to do it cheaper, then use extra cash for mods

Hey chidrock,
Thank you for the advice.
I am going to check some local places. I wand to get my car ready before summer.

I was thinking in ordering the top and installing myself.
But, I have reading in the forums that its better to pay somebody else to do it.

Let you guys know how it goes.

I won't ever own a convertible again. I had a '70 Olds 442 vert, completely restored, only to have some dipsh!t cut open my top 4 days after the resto was complete. They didn't even try to steal anything. That, plus leakage, cost of repair/replacement and wear and tear wore me down.

3k
Damn, I learned a long time ago that the oem top of the line is better than aftermarket because of supply and demand.. Sorry for the loss but it will happen again IMO as long as you go aftermarket in your vert.
