Default Snow tire question...

This may be a stupid question to ask, but has anyone only put snow tires on the rear of the car? If so, did the car handle better in the snow over stock? Would you suggest getting all four tires done?

If you go to winter tires you should get them on all 4 wheels

Another question concerning winter tire; what manufactures make 18" x 8/8.5" winter tires?

Thanks ilduce.I'll probably only go with rears on mine this year. I live in the flatlands of central OH,not many hills here.

I have the Blizzaks in 265 35 R18. I live in Chicago and they work great in the snow! The only draw back is they make a lot of noise.

try getting stock V-6 rims to put some blizacks on, and you need 4, 2 to steer, 2 to go

I tried to make it through a Maine winter with the stock Pirelli All-Seasons. BAD IDEA! Then I bought four 17" Michelin X-Ice. They were awesome in unplowed snow and even on ice. I would never go with only two though. Not having snow tires on the front would negatively affect your steering as well as your braking, since the front wheels are primary for both of those.

Another question...since I have the Pony Package, does that mean I need to get 17-inch wheels to accomodate the rotors, or can I get away with 16-inch?

16's are fine. If I had to run in the winters here in MA I'd look into studded snows on Crown Vic 16's. Wouldn't run them everyday but any sign of upcoming inclement conditions, on they go. I've seen 04 and earlier mustangs and last year a couple Dodge Magnums stuck, spinning on near flat surface, going no where and snow not that deep. With studs you GO, and that steel can help you with control and stopping ability. Haven't run studded snows on anything in the last few years so can't speak to availability and legality issues state by state. ...but there's nothing like them. (Honestly can't see changing fronts; folks will tell you that you must but I'm only talking about using these sparingly)
