Default ram air hood

If you were I were to buy a ramair hood, like the cervinis one (or any hood with a ram air system) would a custom fabbed air intake be worth the trouble? I realize you would have to dyno tune it, but a dyno tune is on my list anyways. Do you think it would get any gains above say a JLT or C&L intake?

Well there arent any REAL ram air setups for our cars.. but if you want to design one then be my guest.. and be sure to share it with us! I cant really see how there would be MUCH of an improvement but maybe slightly.. any extra airflow is always good. Just be sure to have it tuned so that youre getting extra fuel as well.

Yeah, I was just thinking of a air filter coming straight out of the TB. Kinda like the corvettes (I think) I see there's a kit like this already out, I guess the only problem would be keeping water out of the filter/engine bay. Ideas?

Yeah, youre talking about the WMS (I think its called), but it is just a front mounted CAI not ram air.

And yeah the vettes have a front mounted intake as well, yet its not ram air either.. I dont think there are many ram air setups for any cars lately.. it was big back in the day but alot of people dont like HUGE hoods and no/an ineffective air filter. Maybe if there was a bigger market for it someone would come out with one.. but I just dont see it. Personally Id buy one.. but only if it was real.. not just named "ram air intake". A real ram air setup will slightly pressurize the air its bringing in by using force from the moving vehicle.. something none of the intakes out (that Im aware of anyways) do.

Thanks! Looks like it's time to head over to the firebird forums and see if I can't figure something out.

Yeah Im not that big on those models so I dont know if they were actually ram air or not, but let us know what you find out! Id be interested in a working ram air intake & hood, even if it had to be custom fabbed.

That's a nice looking hood. Unfortunately a real ram air hood + system isn't on the market. A ram air hood can be any hood with slots cut in it to allow the air in. A system would require piping to force that air directly into an air filter.

Unfortunately theres more than just a hood to a ram air setup.. just a functional hood doesnt make it ram air. Just happens to be the name of the hood. [&:]
