Default PONTIAC SOLSTICE

This guy starts "raggin" on me about how one of these GXP's can eat a GT. He said he ordered one, and it's due in anyday, and wants to run me. Now, from what I've looked up, I doubt that 260HP, and 235# of torque is gonna keep up, although it is lighter.

This guy claims that only 1000 of these are being made, and they are bada$$. Actually, I think they look like a Fiat, and are more of a girl's type car, than a macho ride like a MUSTANG.

I dunno, I must be livin under a rock, cuz I never heard of these lil ****buckets untill yesterday. Never saw a commercial, ad, whatever.

Anyone's opinion ??

From what I have seen in magazine reports they are supposed to be low 14 second cars. The GT should be able to take one with equal drivers but we all know how much the driver affects the outcome of a race.

The Solstice is certainly not a limited production car - either in base or GXP form. It's also going to be marketed as the Saturn Sky and as an Opel in Europe. While it does have 260hp/260 lb/ft - it also weighs 3000 lbs. Car and Driver has the 0-60 at 5.6 sec and the 1/4 mile at 14.2 - so unless we have a bad driver in the Mustang we're going to take them with little problems. One thing to keep in mind is the automatic makes the car a little faster since you can power brake it to get boost before you start - various magazines are saying about .3 faster to 60 and a 14.0 in the 1/4. Who knows - will be fun to see - also will be interesting to see what type of mods come out for these things.

Those are beeyuteTful cars, IMO. I see them all the time - they're being test driven from the plant here in Delaware. The Saturns are also built there, but they do not look as good as the Pontiacs, again IMO. Down the road I might get a Solstice for the wife (not cuz it looks like a girl car).

When your friend gets his, take 'em to the track so you can shut him down and have proof to back it up...

KTown-
It's an '06-- TR3650 and Hopefully, a CAI and Tune in the very near future.
I'm totally confident that I can take him with the car stock.
2nd question,... Are these cars that popular, and hard to get ? I checked on ebay and there's about 35 of them, and the most expensive one was $29K
Personally, I don't see the big attraction IMHO

I think the Mustang GT should be able to beat the Solstice GXP and the Saturn Sky Redline......but it will be closer than you think. Think about how close your races have been against SRT-4 and Cobalt SS and you'll get an idea.

Better hope your friend doesn't get one of these instead:

The Solstice and Sky are cool cars...I'd drive one if i could fit into them better. I'm 6'3" and i got behind the wheel of a solstice before i put my down payment on the stang. i fit better then i do in an S2000, but the long wait for just a base, (the GXP wasn't out then) and the fact that most of the pontiac dealers were being jerks about the car...probably because they could sell them without test drives, so why offer the one on the showroom floor for a test drive...well all of those things just kept me on track for the stang. I'm very happy with my decision, i feel its the better choice for me anyway. besides...the solstice and sky look cool, the stang is BADASS!
