Help with Stripes Please!!
If it does fade then you'll have permanent ghost stripes.

I was quoted $2,000.00 for painted on stripes. They have to remove body parts, paint the stripes on, then clear over everything. Very involved. I am toying with stripes, but I believe I will go the vinyl route for two reasons. 1) I can buy and have installed vinyl stripes for around $400.00. 2) If I get tired of the stripes, I can have them removed and have my original paint intact. My car is always garaged and never sees rain and doesn't sit out in the sun, so I don't think paint fade beneath the stripes would be much of an issue.

Still probably about as much to repaint the whole car if that happens. You can get a nice paint job for $5000. Vinyl stripes are also more retro. The car is yellow and will have black stripes but is a convertible (probably black top). This will look nice either way.
Well, I just got back from my local shop and I talked to the owner of the shop who I know and he quoted me $800 for the two Black Painted stripes which will extend from Bumper to Bumper. I think Ima go with something around 12-12 3/4 In Stripes, and then I'm not sure on the gap between them. He just recently put on a set of stripes for a Blue v6 vert here n town, and I saw them and they looked DAMN good. Though I do need to get my chin spoiler, ducktail, and hood scoop put on as well, so well see how it goes. I'm still pretty scared to PAINT my car so I still have a lot of thought process I need to go through for this.
For $800 you must be talking raised edge (not buried underclear), probably a single stage urethane no clearcoat (you should ask). I'm even scared that you will do this to your car. I love the yellow and would paint the mirrors and a chin spoiler but keep a clean look. Yellow with black stripes is something dealers and other are doing with quick vinyl applications. How is your car going to look any different from these from 30' away? sorry JMO but you asked; try the vinyl for 6 - 12 mos before you do this. I get a bumble bee type feeling when I see black stripes on a yellow stang. ...buy hey, whatever makes you happy that is what matters here. good luck...

Just noticed you have a vert. ...forget what I said about two tone. First of all you're scared for good reason. Do the vinyl as a short term test. If/when you decide that's not the look you really wanted, it's a simple removal process and you have your clean looking screamin yellow stang back. You can paint anytime, no rush. When you're not sure it's vinyl first; If you were certain, well that's a different story I suppose. To remove the painted stripes and go back is no small job. You will practically need to re clearcoat the entire car (upper surfaces and fr and rear fascias for sure. Aftermarket clear and factory clear on adjacent panels won't look right.)
Forget about the strips. Every dealership around my area are striping thier cars. If it continues then a plain pint job will be the unique thing to have. I though strongly about striping mine in the beginning and pondered paint or vinyl and came to the conclusion that vinyl would be best for me being mine stays in the garage coverd most of the time. Paint is great but very expensive and you have to hope that you have someone that takes a lot of pride in his work to do it. That's just my opionion.
I recommend going with the vinyl. Its cheaper and you can decide if you like it. Mine is sceduled to go in the shop Tues for the vinyl stripes. They are only $100 plus about $100 to install.
Yes I will have black stripes and it will look like every other Tungsten with black stripes. Difference is all the other mods I have will make it look different. I have yet to see a saleen extreme style hood striped.

Hey fairlane, Do you have any recommendations on a place to get some nice Vinyl Stripes? I think that your right, and getting the vinyls first will really help me decide If I truly want them for later on. But I'ma have to wait and see how much I like it with out the stripes when I get all my work done on my car. I'll just have to wait and see. I appreciate your help, along with you others, thanks.
