Come on how cool is this to have. They are a blast to drive. I don't think I would make it a daily driver though.

lotus would be my choice way fun. you can also get 40+mpg in that thing. But really i would pick neither and get a saleen extreme. But good thing about alotus is not many people have it so youll look unique. To a person who doesnt know cars their just gonna think the shelby is a mustang with a body kit.

A Saleen extreme is 75k, its worth the money but is still alot more than the other two. I've drove a lotus on a small roadtrip(200 miles) and my rear end felt like i had been to prison. But there is no doubt that for road racing the lotus is the way to go. The shelby is the better daily driver.

Buy a M3 and have your cake and eat it too. I think if you bought a Shelby and autocrossed it, you're getting to get alot chuckles coming your way.

Lotus. NO question. I hate garage queen cars but the Shelby is one of those cars that will likely appreciate in value so I would treat it as such if I had the means to buy it. If you want a road racer, the Caterham and Lotus are prime examples of what to get.

these cars are about as different as they come. Test drive both. Buy the one that beckons you.

OK...maybe you can't test drive both. Then test drive a mustang GT and test drive a Boxster? I dunno, there are lots of comparisons but if you can't decide what you like after you drive both, then you need to shop more.
