RE: weird noise when shifting
do you feel any vibration on the clutch pedal? Could be your throwout bearing, but you'd generally hear/feel that anytime the clutch pedal is depressed.
Usually if a noise on heard only on clutch engagement or disengagment it is clutch related rather than trans related....but bearing noises can come and go with load.
Drive it till it explodes and let the dealer fix it...just make sure it explodes under warranty......

RE: weird noise when shifting
I'd be interested if anyone gets their clutch replaced under warranty. When mine went (11,900 miles) both Ford and the dealer told me no joy....at first a Ford rep told me it had a 12,000 mile warranty and then when I told them the odo had 11.9k another rep told me it was a "wear item". Not a biggie since I was looking to go with a different clutch anyway.

pony GT- - thats correct-- the clutch is in warrenty for the first year or 12,000 miles. I would've been pissed had they not fixed it! I ahte when Ford tries to get out of things [:@]

Is there anything in writing about a 12month/12,000 mile warranty that covers anything? I've never heard of this magical warranty.

the clutch disc is a wear item.....but the disc wouldn't be making the described noise (well....most likely not). But the throwout bearing, though usually replaced as part of a clutch replacement, should not be a wear item. Same for the rest of the engagement mechanicals; not sure about the pressure plate though that seemingly should not be a wear item either....

moosestang - Apparently the warranty items are in writing...when I asked the Ford CSR to point me to it or send it to me she told me to go to a website (can't remember it now) where you can PAY to get the warranty in black and white. I find it amusing now but I was ticked when she told me that.
Also, when I was told (by the second Ford CSR, and the dealer service manager and the shop foreman) that the clutch itself was a wear item I made a point that sure the disk was a wear item but not the housing - that would only fail if a system failure or improper installation and it was all factory. Anyway I lost the debate.
I did get a new flywheel - I won't go into details here but from all appearances it was a system failure.
bradS - don't remember exactly but I got the Stage 2 package from brenspeed - somewhere around $650 including the aluminum flywheel - can't remember install but I am thinking it was around $200 - it was less than $900 total.
I really like the Spec clutch much better than the stock one...much more positive engagement particularly when I need to do a quick 2-3 shift.
Now if I was to do it all over I really think I'd go with the Stage 3 or 3+ mainly because of future plans. I did not originally because I am not going to get over 500 ftlbs of torgue anytime soon and I had heard the engagement on the Stage 3's was just shy of not streetable...but I drove a Stage 3 and it was almost the same as the Stage 2 and the Stage 3 is priced the same as the Stage 2 (the 2+ and 3+ are more $ though).
Hope that helps
